Result of Service
Outputs/Work assignment: – Perform duties related to the development of ESCWA web initiatives and portals including but not limited to: Information Society Initiative, Digital Cooperation Initiative, Digital Development Initiative, ArabDIG Initiative, and associated subsites and portals as well as updating and reorganizing their content, as assigned by the Supervisor. – Provide substantive research and general administrative support to ADCD-ASAP phase 2 related deliverables; including but not limited to: Convening the 2nd Arab “Digital Cooperation and Development Conference” and its associated tracks, as well as the Official Launch of the Arab Digital Agenda and related documentation and promotional material (video, brochures, etc), as assigned by the Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities
BACKGROUND: I. OBJECTIVES The services of an Individual Contractor (IC) – Research Assistant on Digital Cooperation/Development and Channels/Web Content/Operations, are needed to (a) support in the development, re-organization and refining of content and design of subsites for Digital Cooperation and Digital Development in the Arab region; and (b) carry out research and substantive work in support of the implementation of selected deliverables of the project on “Advancing Digital Cooperation and Development Arab States Action Programme (ADCD – ASAP) – Phase 2. The IC – Research Assistant on Digital Cooperation/Development & Channels/Web Content/Operations will also assist in a variety of administrative services in support of channels (events, promotional material, webpage content and news for dissemination across various platforms and social media outlets) and products (publications, technical material, etc.). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The IC – Research Assistant on Digital Cooperation/Development & Channels/Web Content/Operations will work under the guidance and supervision of the Chief of ICT Policies, Lead Coordinator of the Advancing Digital Cooperation and Development’s Arab States Action Programme (ADCD – ASAP) in the Statistics, Information Society and Technology Cluster (SISTC), ESCWA, and in cooperation with other ADCD-ASAP team members assigned by him. The IC – Research Assistant on Digital Cooperation/Development & Channels/Web Content/Operations will support in the development and organization of content and design of web assets and subsites related to ADCD-ASAP Phase 2; namely: • Online Digital Development Initiative o Arab Digital Agenda (ADA) Portal o Collaboration and Partnerships Framework (CPF) Portal o National Digital Development Reports/ Arab Digital Development Reports (NDDR/ADDR) Portal / Digital publication o Digital Development Maturity Measurement Model (MMM) Portal • Digital Cooperation Initiative o Global Digital Compact (GDC) process o Summit of the Future (SoF) process o World Summit on Information Society + 20 Review (WSIS+20) Review • ArabDig initiative o Arab Dialogue on Internet Governance – Arab IGF main and annual websites In addition, the IC – Research Assistant will be tasked to: • Research appropriate tools for intelligent search, data mining and harvesting pertaining to Digital Development and Digital Cooperation related topics in the Arab region; • Follow through and retrieve, highlight and compile information on Digital Development and Digital Cooperation related topics from a wide variety of sources and prepare inputs on the subject as required; • Prepare statistical tables and graphs and assists in the preparation of presentations and background material in support of Digital Development and Digital Cooperation deliverables; • Carry out quality control function by reviewing, proofreading and editing documents on Digital Development and Digital Cooperation; • Draft routine correspondences (emails, letters, memos…) to relevant stakeholders as needed; • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, attends meetings, prepares minutes, monitors follow-up activities; • Assist in following up with ESCWA Member Countries (EMCs) focal points on additional information on assessed digital development and digital cooperation status, to ensure smooth execution of tasks and implementation of activities related to the Arab Digital Agenda and National Digital Development Reviews; • Assist in the development and dissemination of communication materials, when needed; • Perform other duties related to ADCD-ASAP as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
A recognised 1st level degree in a field related to Information and communications Technologies or Digital Development or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience in database, software, websites, or content development, operations, maintenance, or administration is required. Experience with an international organisation in a developmental field is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
Additional Information
Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
