Duties and Responsibilities
Background Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action, and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk by working with the U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and the science and technology community. Duties and Responsibilities The consultancy will support the information and communication activities of the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, supporting mainly the digital and graphic design of the products, activities, and events of the Disaster Preparedness Project (DIPECHO) as well as USAID/OFDA activities. The individual contractor will be home-based and will report to the Communication and Public Information Assistant in UNDRR regional office for the Americas and the Caribbean. . The main responsibility will be producing high-quality graphic design for documents, flyers, social media cards, invitations, and videos to strengthen risk understanding. The individual contractor should work within the UNDRR standard designs and branding guidelines. Technical support for this position will be provided by the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean under the supervision of the Information and Communication Assistant.
Qualifications/special skills
First level university degree in Graphic Design, Communication Science or related fields is required. At least six (7) years of experience in digital and graphic design is required. Experience in layout design in printed and digital assets is desirable. Experience in animation creation and audiovisual postproduction is desirable. Experience in the Americas and the Caribbean is desirable.
