Reports to: Chief Global Programs and Development Officer, Global Program Development 

Location: US, Remote 

Position Overview: 

Winrock International is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to fill the role of Director for Climate and Environment. The successful candidate will lead strategic efforts to enhance Winrock’s impact and presence in climate adaptation and mitigation programming. This position is crucial for elevating Winrock’s thought leadership, increasing internal coordination, and driving new business development to expand and scale our work in the climate change sector.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

Major Responsibilities 

Lead Winrock’s Climate Change Council: 

  •    Develop a unified Winrock Climate strategy, including cohesive service offerings and objectives. 
  •    Update and refine the Climate Change strategy in collaboration with key units. 
  •    Encourage cross-collaboration and communication across Winrock, promoting thought leadership and innovation. 
  •    Establish and chair the Climate Council for ongoing coordination. 

Increase Thought Leadership Visibility: 

  •    Develop a compelling narrative showcasing Winrock’s climate change history and thought leadership. 
  •    Convene key staff to identify and articulate Winrock’s core value proposition. 
  •    Publish blogs, articles, and host webinars to highlight Winrock’s thought leaders externally. 
  •    Represent Winrock at key conferences and engage in international consortia related to climate change. 

Increase Internal Capacity and Provide Direct Project Support: 

  •    Mentor staff, design climate tools, and deliver training on integrating climate change into work planning. 
  •    Develop and improve climate toolkits and bespoke WinTools. 
  •    Provide direct project support, mentorship, and QA/QC for projects with a climate resilience component. 
  •    Support visioning and strategy development for better addressing climate change adaptation opportunities. 

  

 Lead New Business Development Efforts 

  •   Lead opportunity qualification, capture, and pursuit for selected opportunities. 
  •   Develop a portfolio of projects under existing departments with a focus on climate change adaptation/resilience. 
  •   Support capture through engagement in technical design and solutioning. 
  •   Expand and scale Winrock’s climate resilience capabilities in target sectors and locations. 
  •   Contribute to the increase of climate-related revenue

 

Qualifications 

Education:   Master’s degree in a related field; advanced degree strongly preferred. 

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in climate change management, with a strong preference for experience with USAID and other federal agencies. 
  • Proven success in thought leadership, project management, and new business development in the climate change sector. 
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams. 
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning abilities. 
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally. 

The salary range for this role is set between $155,000 and $178,000, with the majority of candidates typically land within the midpoint of this range, there is an additional 10% contribution for a 403b annually and an excellent benefits package.
