Purpose of Job

Director, Head of TFP, is responsible for the general management of the Programme, including: setting its strategic direction (in consultation with the line manager and, as a case may be, the head of the FI Business Group); providing senior oversight and guiding direct reports on the annual business delivery; leading TFP product development; in the context of the Bank transformation effort and whilst it is ongoing, leading the TFP operational transformation effort; leading senior level TFP engagement with key internal stakeholders such as Risk Management, Impact, CSD, Opscom and the Board; leading the TFP team, ensuring cohesive, engaged and motivated team, which maintains the excellent culture and high operating effectiveness it has delivered over the years.

Engagement with external stakeholders (issuing banks, various international trade-finance organisations, confirming banks and similar programmes of other IFIs) is a key part of the role. As a champion and the figurehead of the Programme, the head of TFP acts as the leading liaison / representative of TFP in such external engagements.

Accountabilities & Responsibilties

  • Responsible to manage the resources, budget and staff in order to ensure the TFP team meets the quantitative and qualitative objectives of the FI Business Group annual scorecard.
  • In consultation with the line manager and the head of the FI Business Group, set the strategic direction and for TFP, and lead the strategic plan execution.
  • Prepare proposals for the annual business plan and budget and provide inputs for the Group business plans.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the delivery of the Programme annual business plan.
  • Assume the overall leadership, strategic and tactical guidance in relation to the policy dialogue and technical assistance activities under the Programme.
  • In the context of the Programme, lead senior level engagement with key internal stakeholders such as Risk Management, Impact, CSD, EvD, Internal Audit, Opscom and the Board; represent TFP at various internal committees – SpCom, OpsCom, the Board and committees, etc., and external events to promote the Programme and the Bank.
  • Provide senior level oversight and guidance to TFP Business Leaders on various operational matters such as managing client relationships,
  • Act as a senior-level champion and advocate for product development under the Programme
  • Effectively coordinate and liaise with other Directors and relevant heads of business units in the FI Business Group to ensure the coherent operation and business delivery of the Group overall.
  • Ensure team’s compliance with the Bank’s integrity procedures in the context of the Programme.
  • In the context of the Bank’s transformation effort and whilst it is ongoing, lead the TFP operational transformation effort.
  • Lead the team, ensuring cohesive, engaged and motivated team, which maintains the excellent culture and high operating effectiveness it has delivered over the years.

Qualifications & Skills / Knowledge & Skills

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated high level banking skills, sophisticated technical skills and expertise in business origination, advanced client relationship skills and high-profile stakeholder management.
  • The individual must be a business driver, with strong leadership skills.
  • Strong organisational and management skills. Ability to manage a number of varied and complex tasks, resilient attitude towards conflicting priorities and challenges.
  • Ability to motivate team performance through a people centred approach to management. Coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.
  • Diplomatic communication and negotiation skills suited for a wide variety of people at high level both inside and outside the Bank.
  • Ability to listen to the views of business partners and to be sensitive to and understand cultural differences, transition success factors and the complexity of political constraints in the countries of operations.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Significant number of years of relevant financial industry experience at a major merchant/investment, commercial or development bank.
  • Significant number of years of experience at a leadership / management role in the field of trade finance.
  • Excellent knowledge of trade finance industry, relevant instruments, legal and operational requirements applicable to trade finance business.
  • Demonstrated, proven capacity to do business in a tough and challenging environment.
  • Experience of and judgement on integrity matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a business and a team.
