The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe’s gateway to space. Its mission is to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space continues to deliver benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world. ESA’s annual budget is about 7 billion Euro.
Under the direct authority of the Director General, you will contribute to the ESA-wide management, supporting the ESA Director General in the discharging of all relevant responsibilities and tasks and participating in the pursuit of ESA’s overall objectives. You will be a member of the ESA Executive Board and support the Director General’s leadership of ESA at senior management level.
The Directorate of Internal Services has a workforce of around 350 staff and contractors spread over the different ESA Establishments in Europe and an annual budget of about 280 million Euro.
In the framework of the ESA matrix organisation comprising programme directorates and support directorates, you, under delegation from the Director General, will be responsible for internal services including the financial management of the Agency, the Agency’s human resources policy and its implementation, the facility management of all ESA Establishments and Centres, the management of the ESA corporate informatics infrastructure, applications and related services, the planning and implementation of the workforce evolution and distribution across the Agency, and the ESA Digital Transformation and related activities in support to the Director General. You will also be a key actor of the ESA transformation process to increase efficiency and effectiveness of process and procedures within the directorate and across the Agency.
You will actively work to ensure the well-being, motivation, training and career progression of your Directorate workforce, incentivising a spirit of initiative, transparency, information flow and coordination with other Directorates.
You will also be responsible for identifying, assessing, managing, and reporting the health and safety risks in your area of responsibility.
You will liaise with external entities (Member State delegations, industry (space and non-space), academia, international partners, stakeholder organisations) as required.

At least a master’s degree in a relevant discipline coupled with in-depth knowledge and experience in functions like those described above, preferably acquired in an international setting.
Key qualities required for this post are an innovative spirit and a strategically oriented mind, a proven capacity to lead change and manage people and teams, excellent relations management and negotiation skills and the ability to influence high level decisions.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required.
Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
