IFC’s Corporate Strategy & Operations Management reports to the VP Corporate Support. The unit supports Senior Management and Operations on the formulation, execution and reporting of corporate strategy. This includes (i) developing IFC’s position on key strategic issues for the institution including the Strategic Business Outlook, (ii) providing institutional thought leadership and evaluating operational implications, and (iii) communicating effectively ‘IFC’s story’ to key external and internal stakeholders.
We are looking for a pro-active, can-do Senior Strategy Officer to join the corporate strategy unit . This is an exciting opportunity to join the Corporate Strategy Unit at a time of change as the World Bank Group is undergoing the Evolution Roadmap exercise. You will be working with teams across the nexus of IFC operations and be engaged with senior management on strategic thought leadership and Board dialogue.
The role offers the opportunity to take a bird eye’s view and gain a corporate-level perspective for staff looking to develop both a management view of the organization as well as contribute to strategic engagement with key internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for someone nimble who enjoys engaging on the spectrum from written analysis to stakeholder engagement and is open to exploring new ways of doing things.
Duties and Accountabilities:
You will be a senior member of the Corporate Strategy Unit and expected to:
• Be a member of the core team leading IFC’s engagement in the WBG Evolution Roadmap process. This entails participating in WBG working group discussions, contributing to the framing of IFC’s views on the Roadmap narrative, preparing brief/notes for senior management and drafting content for the Roadmap paper.
• Co-develop position papers for strategic topics of operational relevance jointly with IFC operational group leaders, senior management and relevant internal/external subject matter experts on key business & emerging issues and thematic areas.
• Design and organize strategy roundtable discussions/workshops with internal and external stakeholders from government, business and academia on emerging topics relevant for the organization to understand the challenges and opportunities of their operationalization.
• Write management briefs, concept notes and strategic insights and provide quality control, where needed.
• Work closely with industry departments to develop strategic roadmaps/interventions to drive new business development and engagement in emerging thematic areas building on white paper approaches and insights from roundtable discussions.
The selected candidate will work closely with colleagues in IFC Industries, AS and Upstream as well as IFC Regions as and other counterparts in IFC / WBG and will represent the unit as needed.
Selection Criteria
• Master’s degree in (development) economics, public policy, finance or a closely related field with at least 10 years of experience in international development.
• Excellent analytical and writing skills with the ability to translate complex issues into engaging and high-quality insights tailored to a wide range of audiences, including the Board, Senior Management and key industry groups.
• Strong understanding of development economics: Ability to formulate compelling narratives of IFC’s (MDB’s) additionality in middle-and low-income economies in context of development challenges these markets. Familiarity with go-to databases to underpin these narratives.
• Strong understanding of IFC’s business and challenges to private sector development in emerging and developing markets.
• Excellent project management skills with demonstrated ability to effectively manage a broad set of stakeholders, define goals and milestones, allocate activities and manage project teams
• Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders with tact and ease and leveraging internal networks and resources.
• Ability to get up to speed with new topics quickly, i.e. sectors, themes, corporate matters, and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
• Open mind, intellectual curiosity and ability to connect the dots.
• Team player and collaborative spirit.
• Operational experience is a plus.
• Experience in data management and visualization is a plus.
