IFC is currently looking for an Extended Term Consultant (ETC), to be based in Brussels, Belgium, to support IFC’s relations with the European Union (EU) institutions and European stakeholders, including the private sector. The IFC Brussels office also covers relations with the Baltics, the Benelux, Cyprus, Greece, and Portugal. The ETC will also be expected to work closely with various teams across IFC and the wider World Bank Group.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Government/EU relations: attend relevant meetings, track developments, and prepare briefing notes as needed. Conduct research.
• Actively keep abreast of EU developments and incorporate trends into EU engagement/outreach.
• Business development: conduct market and industry analysis and mapping exercises to identify new target clients; prepare initial reviews of potential clients/corporates; develop client pitch books and other marketing materials for client and country engagement meetings, as needed.
• Support IFC management engagement with EU/European counterparts; support the organization of missions, events, and meetings.
• Prepare documentation for IFC internal processes, including briefs, strategies and factsheets, and presentations.
• Monitor the portfolio database for the countries covered, as well as the KPIs for the Brussels office.
• Provide insights into economic and political developments in Western European countries to anticipate new investment opportunities with potential European clients and political trends/developments.

Selection Criteria

• Masters’ Degree and 2-3 years of relevant work experience.
• An understanding of EU processes and an established network in key EU institutions is a plus, as is prior experience of international financial institutions.
• Excellent oral and written English is a must, additional languages are a plus (notably French).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and sound business judgment.
• Ability to work effectively on simultaneous projects under time pressure, and at times with minimal supervision.
• Strong client service orientation and high level of diplomacy with an openness to feedback and
new ideas.
• A keen interest in development finance and working in a multicultural environment.
