IFC’s DRC Country office, based in Kinshasa, is seeking to recruit a highly qualified and motivated Extended-Term Consultant (ETC) for Republic of Congo, who will be supporting the country office and operational team on various fronts, including business development, closely monitoring the country’s macro and sector level economic trends and providing timely operational intelligence, and stakeholder management.
The position is a local hire and will be based in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, and will report to the Country Manager for DRC, Republic of Congo and Burundi.
Duties and Accountabilities
The ETC will coordinate and take an active role in various tasks in Republic of Congo and assist the country team on the following, but not limited to:
• Conducting market and industry research and associated analysis, including sector and industry players mapping to inform business development.
• Developing and maintaining a good understanding of the country’s key economic and political issues/ trends to be reported as relevant to the Country and Industry Team.
• Building partnerships with key public and private stakeholders, including new/existing clients, World Bank, other development partners and key ministries relevant for our program.
• Supporting the preparation of visiting missions/trips to the country, including the preparation of briefs, the organization of meeting and logistic.
• Supporting investment, upstream, and advisory teams for all projects in the country, including new business and portfolio projects.
• Supporting the country or industry teams in the update and the preparation of WBG strategy documents such as the Country Strategies, Country Private Sector Diagnostics, Climate Change and Development Report (CCDR), Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD); Country Partnership Frameworks, or sectorial Deep Dives.
• Reviewing company information, analyzing financials/projections, make financial models to support investment analysis for potential leads.
• Conducting background checks and integrity due diligence on potential clients.
• Collect all relevant on the ground information with potential impact on IFC’s activities in the country and communicate them in due time to Region/Industry colleagues.
• Reviewing and preparing various reports, organizing meetings and workshops for specific advisory or investment engagements; and
• Performing related tasks as may be required and agreed with the country team.
The following deliverables should be submitted by the ETC to the Country Manager:
• Monthly reports, including time sheets and weekly activities progress updates;
• A database capturing all relevant program information, in a form to be agreed upon with the Country Manager;
• Other deliverables as needed by country and industry teams ;
• On-time completion and quality submission of the above-mentioned deliverables.
Selection Criteria
• Masters degree in business, finance, or economics; and at least 5 years of relevant experience in the country, preferably working within the financial sector in banking, private equity, corporate or project finance, business development; or with similar donor agencies/development finance institutions or financial advisory.
• Experience in project/program management, M&E, and reporting on a portfolio of projects/programs/initiatives with strong organizational skills.
• Proven analytical, financial analysis, and financial modeling skills to analyze and form conclusions on company financial information or projects and industry indicators.
• Excellent Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills to build succinct and convincing analyses and presentations.
• Strong attention to detail and quality.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English and French.
• Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective relationships within and outside IFC.
• Ability to work flexibly and cope with shifting priorities at short notice while meeting deadlines.
• Professionalism, and ability to work under minimum supervision.
