ABOUT THE JOB

He/she works in close cooperation with other field staff for planning of infrastructure activities. The EcRec. assistant (engineer) is expected to maintain close cooperation with the targeted line departments, local communities & project counterparts for site selection, proper designing, developing BoQs of sub projects at community level. Under the direct supervision of the EcRec. TL, EcRec. Officer (Engineer), with technical support of Shelter & Infrastructure Specialist the EcRec. assistant (Engineer) is responsible to ensure that the implementation of DRC Afghanistan’s Watersheds, Irrigation & other infrastructure projects through CFW modality in line with standards and community needs in the assigned area of responsibility is guided in accordance with approved methodologies and tools and are in line with DRC and donor policies and guidelines. He/She will be working in cooperation with DRC’s economic recovery with following sectoral integration among the protection, HDP & emergency teams, in a collaboration with local authorities and communities. In addition, he/she will be tasked of reporting and when requested engaged in monitoring, evaluation and learning activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the EcRec. TL and based on technical instruction of Shelter/Infrastructure Specialist. The EcRec. Assistant/engineer is responsible for:
  • Overall responsible Using survey equipment (total station, leveling machines) perform survey of Watershed streamlines and irrigation as well.
  • Using civil 3D, GIS and Auto Cad to be able to prepare topographical maps from sites survey data.
  • Search for available topographical data (maps, GIS, Google Earth).
  • Make preliminary and technical surveys for the Watershed and irrigation projects.
  • Calculate and process survey data.
  • Preparation of maps: Site plans, Slope Map, Streamlines Map, Contour Map, longitudinal profiles, cross-sections, etc.
  • Assist the EcRec team and site engineer when necessary.
  • Plan works in advance to facilitate timely implementation.
  • Collect the essential survey data for the design engineer, presents maps, take care of the data, and make sure it is properly stored/filed.
  • Establish accurate benchmarks during topographic survey at each Watershed and Irrigation projects.
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the team leader or Shelter and Infrastructure Specialist.
  • Using survey equipment (total station and hand GPS) for calculate all areas such as rocky, rain fad, waterbody, range land, village and agriculture land.
  • Starting the implementation of projects in the region and fallow up of the physical works if necessary.
  • Ensure the site physical works is going on as per the QC and QA procedures and be punctual and accountable.
  • Have the working ability to perform the assignment in a short period of time.
  • Have the self-starting technical working ability.
  • Other work to be assigned by supervisor in the target area.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience and technical competencies:

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience with INGOs, NGOs and construction companies.
  • Proven experience in cash for work, irrigation & mitigation structure design and estimations.
  • Computer skills including MS Office package, Auto cad, civil three D, MS project, GIS, Google earth and other required software’s.
  • Familiarity with survey equipment’s such as GPS, level machine & total station will be an asset.
  • A good understanding of construction context, partner monitoring & engineering field activities.
  • Working knowledge of English and fluency in Dari and Pashto
  • Commitment to the mission and the core values of Danish Refugee Council-DRC.
  • Willing to stay in field locations and travel in all DRC coverage areas.

Education/qualifications:

  • University degree in engineering from recognized university.

  • English (Intermediate)
  • Pashto (Fluent)
  • Dari (Fluent)
