Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified and experienced Economic Recovery Specialist.

About the job

The Economic Recovery Specialist will be responsible of the implementation of the project and provide technical expertise and advisory support to the program team, focusing on improving project quality and effectiveness in implementing activities related to sustainable waste management, WASH, and agricultural initiatives.

Reporting to the project manager, the specialist will collaborate with project staff, stakeholders, and partners to ensure that economic recovery components are integrated effectively into project interventions, contributing to environmental sustainability and socio-economic development within targeted communities. . Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the project manager and the team leader ensure timely and high-quality delivery of all interventions in Anbar.
  • In collaboration with the project manager and the team leader, oversight of all economic recovery activities including project planning, implementation and follow up.
  • Provides advice and technical guidance to project staff on integrating environmental practices into economic recovery activities to ensure alignment with environmental sustainability objectives.
  • Conduct environmental assessments and analyses to identify potential environmental risks, impacts and opportunities associated with project interventions and develop strategies to mitigate harmful impacts and increase positive outcomes.
  • Advice the program staff on the selection and implementation of eco-friendly techniques compliance with environmental standards.
  • Responsible for monitoring the project sites and gathering success stories from the economic recovery programs.
  • Undertake regular and ad hoc field visits to the area of intervention to ensure quality of implementation.
  • collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including environmental agencies and community groups.
  • Facilitate dialogue among community groups to promote social cohesion among diverse communities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to build knowledge sharing and collective actions on environmental issues.
  • Represent the project in environmental related workshops and meetings with stakeholders, advocating for integration of environmental considerations into project activities and integrating environmental criteria standards.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to project staff on environmental management practices including waste management, natural resource and bio-gas interventions and Perma Garden practices.
  • Conduct training sessions and capacity building workshops for project staff and community members on environmental management principles, sustainable practices, and ecosystem strategies.

  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager.
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq Programme Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Code of Conduct.
  • Make sure to spread a positive image of DRC and its activities by explaining what DRC is doing and why DRC operates in that way.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to demonstrate at least 4 years of relevant experience. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Relevant experience – at least 4 years – in similar contexts.
  • Experience with DRC people of concern.
  • Experience in conducting environmental assessments, impact analyses and risk assessments with understanding of environmental standards.
  • Experience in providing technical advice and capacity building support.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of local laws and regulations.
  • Able to work energetically.
  • Relevant computer skills.
  • Strong networking, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills and respect for people with special needs and other vulnerability.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.

Education:

  • Relevant university degree in environmental science, environmental management, natural resources, or similar education.
  • Possession of a training certification in economic development, sustainability or project management would be an advantage.

Reporting to: Economic Recovery Project Manager

Location: Anbar, Faluja with frequent travels to Bzibiz and other areas of intervention.
