Your team

Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, the “Aviation Intelligence” service is responsible for leveraging EUROCONTROL data and analytical insights to promote Agency’s expertise and coordinating the activities of the Business Intelligence and Statistics service towards the achievement of the overall objectives of EGSD and achieving synergies.

The Performance Review Commission (PRC) is established by the Permanent Commission of EUROCONTROL to provide advice in order to ensure the effective management of the European air traffic management system through a strong, transparent and independent performance review system.

The Aviation Intelligence Unit Economic Performance Review Service (EGSD/AIU/ECO) is in charge to support the PRC in the implementation of its economic work programme.

As Economist, you will join the team which is contributing to detailed analyses and reporting tasks in the context of the PRC work programme and in particular the ACE benchmarking analysis which includes 38 Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Perform quantitative economic analysis of Air Navigation Services Providers (ANSPs) performance and produce and/or contribute to the preparation of relevant reports.
  • Collect, analyse and validate data submitted by ANSPs in order to identify potential issues (e.g., quality of data, difference compared to audited financial statements, etc).
  • Prepare and contribute to presentations, press releases and other written outputs to document findings, and present them to external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain various databases as support to activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal/external stakeholders and partners (e.g., external assistance, etc).
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in the area of expertise and support projects/studies and other initiatives as needed.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • University degree of at least 4 years in a relevant domain (i.e. Economics, Finance, etc) followed by 3 years of relevant working experience.
  • Internal candidates should check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Experience in conducting high quality economic analysis and drafting associated reports.
  • Experience and knowledge in MS Excel and willingness to learn other modelling tools such as R or Power BI.
  • Experience in financial analysis linked to the air transport industry would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Air Navigation Services economics would be an asset.
  • Analytical thinking: you apply a methodical approach to complex information.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1/C2. The selected candidate will be required to become basic user of French at level A1/A2 before the end of the probation period.The levels relate to the Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).
