Job Summary

The Development Macroeconomics Division (DMD) of the Research Department of the IMF is looking for an Economist under a one-year contract. The candidate will work on research projects of interest to the division and application of models to country cases, in areas such as public investment, health shocks and fiscal-monetary policy. Outputs will typically include jointly authored research papers and contributions in policy papers.

Minimum Qualifications

Educational development, including and/or supplemented by work experience, typically acquired through the completion of:

  • An advanced degree in macroeconomics, monetary economics, financial economics, public finance, international trade, econometrics and/or related field, supplemented by a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience is required; OR
  • A PhD in macroeconomics, monetary economics, financial economics, public finance, international trade, econometrics and/or a related field is required.

Candidates should:

  • possess strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills.
  • possess a superior academic record
  • have an excellent command of English, written and oral.

The position also requires knowledge and experience in the application of modern modeling techniques of macroeconomics, such as calibrated and estimated Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium models. Familiarity with software packages Matlab and Dynare would be desirable, as would some track record of research papers in related fields.

This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent’s performance, budget availability and continuous business need.
