Under the overall guidance of the head of the DVU, the writer will suggest guidance on how to turn the ‘provided text’ into content that is easy to understand, succinct and a compelling read for a broad audience which includes trends and analysis of the overall humanitarian situation. The writer will edit and proofread drafted text to ensure substantive and linguistic accuracy, in line with UN standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
– Develop, edit and curate impact stories, and related communications work in support of donor visibility and resource mobilization. – Draft, edit and proofread selected sections of reports, stories, articles and other digital materials relating to humanitarian financing impact and donor visibility. – Ensure materials are written in consistent language, are appropriately tailored to their audience, and are aligned with the OCHA style guide and UN standards. – Suggest and update guidance on how to turn written inputs and source information into content that is succinct, easy to understand, and a compelling read for a broad audience. – Support field teams in story development and guidance, to underpin successful donor partnership management. – Curate associated communications, visibility and advocacy materials for digital platforms, including consistency of titles and captions for related graphics. – Support the research, drafting, and editing of visibility materials including stories, articles and other digital content on OCHA’s humanitarian financing work and the promotion of humanitarian funds; including for high-level events and campaigns.
Qualifications/special skills
*University degree with relevant experience in journalism or international development is required. *A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in communication and media working with the UN and in the non-profit sector is required. *Experience drafting humanitarian flagship publications is desired. *Understanding of the role of humanitarian funds and Annual/Results reports is desired.
Languages
Excellent command of written and spoken English is required.
