This position is located in the Editorial Graphics Unit of the Documents and Publications Division at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago.
Responsibilities
Within limits of delegated authority, the Editorial and Desktop Publishing Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Under the supervision of the Team Leader, organizes, and co-ordinates the work of a particular shift with respect to the production of camera-ready documents and publications.
• Distributes assignments so as to ensure efficient and effective processing of documentation and an equitable distribution of work. Updates electronic tracking system accordingly.
• Assures smooth continuity of work from night to day shift and vice versa; prioritizes work to be continued and gives special instructions as needed.
• Participates, as member of a team, in the production of official documentation and publications, by using digital publishing technologies in the appropriate language for production.
• Incorporates changes as marked by revisers and editors, ensuring that the final version of the document conforms to, as the case may be, (a) the draft translation as to contents, and/or (b) the original language manuscript as to format and typography, in accordance with existing editorial guidelines.
• Registers incoming/outgoing documents in order to control flow of work in and out of unit.
• Maintains daily statistics. Performs administrative work, as needed.
• Trains and guides junior support staff.
• Performs supervisory functions in the absence of the Supervisor.
• Rotates in day and night shifts, as well as weekend on-call duties, as needed.
• Depending on the needs of the service, availability for overtime is expected.
• Performs other related work as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Job – Specific Qualification
Supplemental technical or university courses in a field of Graphic Design, Editing or Publishing or related field is required.
Work Experience
At least seven (7) years of experience in desktop publishing, including draft typing, copy editing, proof-reading and typographical layout or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
