Purpose of the role

The Education Assistant is responsible for assisting the daily implementation of the Education programme and following up in the field and conducting outreach visit and activities.

What you will do

  1. Monitor and report on the project activities and ensure compliance with plans and NRC standards
  2. Work with the communities for the identification and enrollment of children in the learning center or NFE activities.
  3. Distribute and monitor the use of educational materials according to procedures
  4. Assist the education team and teachers in their work
  5. Suggest new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities
  6. Carry out data collection and survey with children using NRC template and tools as required
  7. Prepare field reports
  8. Prepare and file relevant documents as required by line manager
  9. Carry out related mainstreaming of protection in programme daily implementation as per the set NRC’s Protection mainstreaming guidelines, and ensure reporting any breaches/ concerns to the line manager for proper action.
  10. Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point and to the related Protection Coordinator

Specifically, you will;

  • Assist Education Officers in monitoring attendance of children, teachers and bus drivers
  • Conduct Field visits in cooperation with Education Coordinator and Education Officers to define the needs and identify new beneficiaries.
  • Assist with conducting outreach work and collecting information with identified communities.
  • Provide outreach program in the community (life skills and recreational activities) according to the module, curricula, schedule and approach
  • Carry out Survey with children using NRC template and tools (Mobenzi)
  • Enter on daily and weekly basis data related to beneficiaries and activities in the education data base
  • Assist education team in data entry including surveys, observation forms and pre/post test results.
  • Assist in distribution of materials and archiving of distribution lists.
  • Assist in conducting and preparing mapping of relevant services being provided.
  • Assist in conducting regular assessments and producing relevant reports (including focus group discussions, interviews, questionnaires, etc.).
  • Assist with planning work on weekly and monthly basis in accordance with work plan.
  • Contribute to preparation of relevant documents (including contracts, MoUs, brochures, newsletters, information notes, information board updates)
  • Assist with monitoring and following-up on the quality of services provided.
  • Monitoring and supervision of transport for beneficiaries (including accompanying beneficiaries on transport).
  • Assist in designing and typing questionnaires, tests, surveys and other templates.
  • Assist in maintaining archiving system up to date (both in hardcopies and electronically)
  • Assist Education Officers in printing and organizing pre and post tests for beneficiaries
  • Assist in conducting phone calls and filling surveys for outreach or outcome monitoring
  • Assist Education Officers in monitoring attendance of children, teachers and bus drivers
  • Assist in organizing education activities for children, training for teachers and awareness sessions for parents
  • Assist education team in implementing youth led initiatives and follow up on Parents Community’s Group work
  • Maintain relations with refugee and host communities, local authorities and other local actors.
  • Coordinate with other NRC core competency staff at field level.
  • Report weekly & monthly (or more often, if required) on activities and results to the relevant NRC staff.
  • Perform any other Education tasks as assigned by line manager.

 Professional competencies

  • University degree in education or related field.
  • Experience from working with education projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Qualified and experienced teacher/ master trainer.
  • Experience in psycho-social support for children’s and youth’s emotional, social, mental, and spiritual needs.
  • Knowledge of NGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector is a plus.
  • Strong documentation, research and report writing skills.
  • Knowledge and relevant experience in child protection issues.
  • Experience in designing and presenting training programs.
  • Experience in participatory programs.
  • Experience in community sensitization/ mobilization.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken
