- Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the Education Assistant position is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of Education activities in Lviv AO.
Generic responsibilities (max 10)
Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines, with strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies.
- Assist a range of support with the implementation of the Education CC portfolio according to plan of action.
- Implement and monitor project activities upon workplan under coordination of Education Coordinator.
- Responsible for organising and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, in order to be most effective in supporting the team.
- Use initiative in day-to-day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
- Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.
- Ensure proper filing of documents.
- Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees and the host community in-line with SPERE and INEE Minimum Standards
Specific responsibilities
- Assist with NRCs teacher training on Psychosocial Support (PSS) – Better Learning Program (BLP).
- Conduct education needs assessment, with special attention to BLP, gather information and report to line manager.
- Communicate with the schoolteachers and principals, organization of training, including the planning, procurement request and other relevant procedures.
- Contribute to the education team with preparing progress, regular and donor reports related to BLP.
- Regularly travel to the field to support education/BLP interventions.
- Assist the ongoing monitoring and reporting of project outputs/outcomes at field level per the M&E plan and donor requirements, including data collection and data entry
- Ensure direct communication and feedback with beneficiaries and stakeholders at field level, with a focus on community leaders, headmasters/principals, teachers, and students.
- Ensure complaints and feedback response mechanism is in place at field level.
- Ensure schools and learning spaces are safe for children and report all protection concerns immediately.
- Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line and/or technical manager.

By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:
- Project planning: Education Coordinator
- Area operations: Support Assistants
- Staff capacity building: Education Coordinator, Education Project Manager
- Implementation: Education Coordinator
Competencies

1. Professional competencies
These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.
Generic professional competencies:
- Experience working in the education sector in Ukraine. Experience in humanitarian/recovery context is an asset
- Experience working in complex and volatiles contexts preferred
- Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel required
- Willingness to travel regularly to the field is required
- Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian, both written and verbal required; intermediate English language skills required.
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:
- Good understanding of the education system in Ukraine. Knowledge of the Education in Emergencies context is preferred
- Knowledge of the circumstances, needs and challenges displacement and conflict-affected refugee, host community, returnee and IDP children face preferred
- Experience working with children and/or educators preferred
- Experience liaising with and mobilizing local and community stakeholders preferred
- Field level experience with an NGO an asset
- Understanding of SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards an asset
- Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree preferred; significant experience in the field of Education, PSS or Child Protection considered as asset
