The Opportunity:

The position holder will be responsible for assessment, response analysis, design and implementation of the education components of the project. S/he will need to co-ordinate with other Emergency response team members and Plan staff, especially Implementation Management, protection and other relevant technical sectors, to ensure a rapid, proportionate and effective response. S/he also ensures response to immediate child education issues with simultaneous consideration of longer term needs and possible scenarios. The EiE coordinator will be expected to take a very active role in technical co-ordination, support and advocacy with the country specific Education Clusters and other stakeholders and technical agencies relevant to the sector.

The Individual:

  • BA/BSc degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Administration, Pedagogy and other related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of humanitarian aid experience applied in emergency/recovery response operations preferably in the area of education in emergency/recovery, refugee experience is more preferable
  • Basic knowledge on Minimum standards for education highly knowledgeable and conversant of child protection and education in relation to emergencies.
  • Good understanding and experience in program coordination and management (assessment, designing, planning, implementation, report writing, monitoring and evaluation etc…) and supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience working on emergencies and familiarity with Minimum Standards of Education – preparedness, response and recovery.

Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI)

  • Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
  • Ensures that all staff in the unit/function/department are properly inducted on and understands their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in day to day work.
  • Ensures that Plan Ethiopia contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted
