About the Program:

Land & Carbon Lab is recruiting an Engagement Manager and Advisor on Biodiversity. You will work with diverse internal and external partners to help shape Land & Carbon Lab’s innovations in various issue areas, with a focus on biodiversity/nature. You will help define Land & Carbon Lab’s strategic and tactical approaches in specific issue areas, advancing impact of our data products and/or new research. You will facilitate between researchers, users, project implementers, funders, and other stakeholders to incubate ideas for the advancement of global nature-related sustainability agendas. You will support project management and fundraising.

Job Highlight:

You will report to the Chief of Party for the USAID Forest Data Partnership, with a dotted line to the Director, Natural Resources Governance and Policy. You will work closely with other Land & Carbon Lab engagement staff as well as colleagues from research, communications, management, and operations teams. You will also communicate with staff in other WRI teams and external stakeholders, in a leading role with partners in Land & Carbon Lab’s work on biodiversity and nature-based solutions.

What will you do:

Co-creation of tactics and strategies to guide LCL impact and impact pathways [strategize]:(30%)

  • Help draft and validate theories of change to connect LCL-driven research and data generation efforts to policy/implementation agendas in various issue areas such as biodiversity, agriculture/crops, non-forest ecosystems, nature-based solutions and finance. Relevant agendas include global or regional commitments, action plans, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Biodiversity Framework etc.
  • Co-lead collaborative development of tactics that define potential LCL data offers and desired impacts in the biodiversity/nature space, with a view to the achievement of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). These tactics guide engagement and research efforts, including by defining issue-specific research questions that help drive impact, and will be developed in collaboration with other LCL relevant teams (i.e., research) and other WRI staff as appropriate
  • Coordinate LCL activities with other WRI teams working in the biodiversity and nature space, including natural resources governance and policy and nature-based solutions
  • Support development of tactics in other issue areas

Internal and external partner engagement [incubate](30%):

  • Working with the LCL Research Team, conduct stakeholder mapping and identify gaps in research and tools that LCL can help fill to advance the implementation of the GBF at global, regional, and national levels
  • Collaborate with existing and potential partners to scope opportunities to collaboratively fill identified needs. Chart pathways for implementations of these opportunities in partnership with internal or external stakeholders, and highlight related fundraising needs and opportunities
  • Identify use cases for new data products/tools working with the LCL Research Team
  • Represent LCL’s data and impact pathways in external communications and engagement activities, as related to the biodiversity space
  • Support partner management for LCL in relevant issue areas

Project management [connect & coordinate] (30%):

  • Field requests and inquiries of a less technical nature from external and internal stakeholders, and direct them to LCL Research Team
  • Support project management and coordination for the LCL Research Team
  • Support fundraising, proposal development, creation of pitch decks

Knowledge management & learning (10%):

  • Maintain overview of current debates and high-level research/policy developments in global biodiversity conservation and adjacent issue areas, with a view on how geospatial data/applications/innovations can help address gaps

What will you need:

  • Education: You have a completed Bachelors degree, degree in related fields such as international development, environmental policy, etc.
  • Experience: You have a minimum of 7+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • You have experience promoting partnerships and driving engagement with stakeholders across different sectors, including foundations, non-governmental organizations, multilateral institutions, governments etc.
  • You have experience in creating achievable strategic and tactical approaches to reach organizational goals while considering various perspectives and political, budgetary, or capacity constraints
  • You have experience working on topics related to sustainable development (e.g., nature, climate, equity) in an international setting
  • You have experience working on biodiversity/nature-based solutions and are familiar with relevant actors in the space
  • You have working knowledge of project management software solutions, tools and approaches and experience applying these solutions across large programs
  • You have experience communicating across large teams with international colleagues
  • You have experience setting priorities and working independently
  • Languages: You have written and oral fluency in English. Knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Bahasa Indonesia are a plus
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

Potential Salary: Salary range is between 9,000 and 116,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
