Organizational Setting

The Department of Management’s Division of General Services (MTGS) provides support functions to the IAEA through its four Sections, namely the Archives and Records Management Section (ARMS), the Commissary Management Section (CMS), the Facilities Management and General Support Section (FMGSS) and the Seibersdorf Laboratories Services Section (SLSS).

The Facilities Management and General Support Section provides technical advice and has overall responsibility for the implementation of major facilities management projects, co-ordination of the IAEA’s travel requirements in conjunction with the Agency’s Travel Management Company and property management and logistics services for the IAEA. The Section comprises of three Units, namely the Facilities and Property Management Unit, Logistics Unit and Travel and General Support Unit. The Section also manages official shipments, household goods removals, IAEA official vehicles and drivers, the processing of duty travel visas and residency permits for staff, consultants and interns. The Section also provides housing services to IAEA staff and, as a courtesy, to other UN staff and members of the diplomatic corps in Vienna.

Main Purpose

Reporting to the Unit Head, the Engineering Services Technician (Engineering Projects) plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the resources related to the civil engineering works, the architectural planning, and the space design for all IAEA premises within the VIC. He/she coordinates all service requests and related works required with the Buildings Management Services (UNIDO) and external contractors if applicable.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Plan and supervise civil engineering, architectural and interior space design work for IAEA projects;
  • Prepare technical proposals, design drawings and specifications for service request using CAD related drawing tools or systems;
  • Prepare bid/tender documents, bills of quantities, draft detailed specifications and estimates, establish work plans and time schedules for construction or renovation projects including cost estimates where necessary;
  • Liaise with UNIDO Buildings Management Section on technical areas such as HVAC or electrical engineering projects and plan preventative maintenance programmes for building elements and services;
  • Supervise work of outside contractors; ensure that all work complies with the Agency design plans and safety and security standards, as well as Austrian standards and regulations and local codes;
  • Coordinate logistics for office relocation and technical facilities at headquarters and the field;
  • Liaise with Seibersdorf technicians on support services to VIC from Seibersdorf and vice versa.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Completed secondary education.

A post-secondary certificate or diploma in building technology, civil, structural, mechanical or electrical engineering, or architecture and construction or similar background would be an asset.

Minimum six years of experience in building, civil, mechanical or electrical engineering, civil or architectural drafting and/or construction.

Practical experience in the use of CAD related drawing tools or systems.

Excellent oral and written command of English and German. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 61171 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks’ annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance.
