Mission and objectives
The volunteer facilitators will: 1. Prepare lessons scenarios, agenda, role plays and list of medical terminologies. 2. Conduct English language sessions focusing on medical scenarios, terminology, and interview skills. 3. Provide a comfortable, supportive environment for students to practice speaking and listening in English. 4. Support students in gaining confidence in medical English relevant to patient care and academic contexts.
Context
The English Speaking Club aims to support medical students in improving their English communication skills, focusing on medical terminology, patient interaction, and academic discussions. As English is widely used in the medical field, the club provides an essential opportunity for students to enhance their language skills, build confidence, and prepare for future international interactions in their careers.
Task Description
Online volunteers are expected to deliver the English speaking club for medical students with intermediate English skills and preparing the facilitation materials. Particularly they will: Session Preparation and Planning: • Design weekly/bi-weekly session plans with activities focusing on practical English, including role-plays, discussions, and case study presentations. • Prepare lessons scenarios, agenda, role plays and list of medical terminologies. • Coordinate with the WHO on session topics, resources, and student feedback. Facilitating English Speaking Sessions: • Lead group discussions and role-playing exercises in a way that encourages all students to participate actively. • Provide constructive feedback to students on pronunciation, vocabulary usage, and conversational flow. • Encourage peer-to-peer interaction and ensure an inclusive environment where students feel comfortable practicing. • Identify and share useful resources, such as medical podcasts, articles, and videos. • Keep attendance and track student progress. • Gather feedback after each session to adjust and improve future activities.
