About the Program:

The Climate Program focuses on four main areas: stepping up national climate action, advancing international climate action, tracking progress toward climate goals, and supporting equity and development goals in the transition to a zero-carbon economy. The Climate Program collaborates with governments, businesses, and civil society to transition toward a zero-carbon economy where all people can thrive.

This position is remote-eligible and only for consideration within the United States where WRI is state registered.

What you will do:

In this role, you will provide qualitative research and data analysis support to the Climate Team. Specifically, you will support the research team exploring biofuels in the Midwest and the impact that shifting biofuel use could have on vulnerable communities. You will be supported by the Environmental Justice and Equity team. You will report to Carla Walker.

Internship Learning Outcomes:

You will support development and administration of focus group methods including participant selection process, development of focus group questionnaire guide, and analysis of focus group discussions. You will research and draft papers and memos to support discussions on policy interventions to reduce the environmental footprint of the biofuels industry while supporting the livelihoods of vulnerable communities. You will provide research related to environmental justice and equity implications of biofuels in the US. You will track the latest developments and discussions, including private and public sector announcements, and major policy and regulatory changes.

What you will need:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with data analysis and qualitative research skills.
  • Some knowledge of agriculture policy in the Midwest, the history and impact of environmental injustice in the US, and the intersection of climate change and environmental justice and equity.
  • Research, writing, and verbal skills.
  • Comfortable interning remotely.
  • U.S. work authorization.

Compensation

The pay for this internship opportunity is $20 for undergrads and $22 for graduates.

Length of Contract:

This is a part-time (20 hours/week), 3-month internship with a flexible start and end date.

Location:

  • This is a remote-based internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C. office once it reopens.
  • WRI will provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
