Duties and Responsibilities
The ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC) seeks an Individual Contractor (IC) to take on essential roles in its green technologies and entrepreneurship projects. This position is crucial for implementing project initiatives, including a regional training program on green technologies and sustainable business models and participating in major events like the Arab SMEs Summit. The IC will work under the supervision of the Executive Director of The ESCWA Technology Centre (ETC). In particular, the environmental coordinator will be tasked to do the following: • Transform ESCWA manuals concerning technology and green business models into comprehensive training materials, with a primary focus on promoting efficient resource utilization and the integration of green technologies. • Translate training materials into Arabic, English, and French to broaden accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that individuals from diverse linguistic backgrounds can comprehend and engage with the content effectively. • Develop and maintain dynamic, auto-updating maps to streamline connections and collaborations within the green technology landscape across the Arab region. These maps serve as invaluable tools for identifying and accessing supportive entities, institutions, and networks, fostering synergy and knowledge sharing within the ecosystem. • Enhance the ESCWA environmental toolkit by integrating multilingual content that places a strong emphasis on green technologies and sustainable practices. • Spearhead the promotion of environmental toolkits and training initiatives at prominent events like the Arab SMEs Summit, aiming to catalyze widespread adoption and implementation of green technologies. • Lead interactive workshops and online sessions, providing participants with valuable insights into emerging trends and opportunities within the realm of green technology. These platforms serve as forums for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and capacity building, empowering stakeholders to harness the full potential of sustainable innovation. • Establish pathways for knowledge exchange and collaboration by developing a comprehensive green tech support network. The individual contractor will also assist in various administrative services through coordination and support of consultation meetings on the above subject.
Qualifications/special skills
A Master degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, business management, business administration, Nonprofit Management, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Public Health, Urban Planning, and Communication Studies or related field is required. A PHD is desirable. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in roles related to environmental management, green technologies, sustainability, renewable energy, or sustainable business practices is required. Proficiency with client engagement and stakeholder management, as the individual contractor will often interact with clients, partners, and stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver effective solutions is desirable. Experience with project management or involvement in similar projects, including successful implementation and achievement of project goals is desirable. Proven ability to analyze complex problems related to sustainability and green technologies and develop innovative solutions is desirable. Familiarity with environmental regulations and policies, as well as knowledge of compliance requirements and reporting procedures is desirable. Proficiency in relevant technical areas such as renewable energy systems, environmental impact assessments, water engineering, waste management, or sustainable supply chain management is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic, English, and French are required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
