The Objective of the consultant is The Feasibility Study and the Detailed Designs for CSUDI will test the feasibility of the climate smart planning and infrastructure option – the CSUDI option – for the project area in Mpigi District: a forthcoming fast urbanizing area of Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA). The aim of CSUDI is to demonstrate that a new and widely replicable approach to urban expansion can be adopted: an option for a climate smart approach aimed at improving the lives of people of all income levels when a rural area urbanises, in the face of projected extreme weather events and with reduced GHG emissions. Recent examples of urban growth in Greater Kampala, the counterfactual, are unplanned, suffer conflicting land uses, are very poorly serviced, and with many areas developing into slum conditions.
