We’re looking for a dynamic, visionary leader and fundraiser with demonstrated ability to think boldly, take risks and use entrepreneurial approaches to aggressively increase revenue. CARE’s Executive Director of Philanthropy, Eastern Region is passionate and inspired by CARE’s mission to defeat poverty, achieve social and gender justice around the globe. They will lead a regional team of fundraisers to significantly expand our donor base of high net worth individuals, families, and private foundations. This seasoned and connected fundraising professional will also develop and implement a visibility strategy in the region resulting in greater awareness of CARE’s mission among current and prospective supporters. Skilled at creating and sustaining interpersonal relationships, the Executive Director will have a strong track record of fundraising success in closing significant gifts and building a motivated and talented team for future growth and impact.

Responsibilities:

  1. FUNDRAISING AND NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
    • Design and execute a comprehensive major gifts strategy to raise/grow significant philanthropic revenue from high net worth donors and prospects in the Eastern region.
    • Develop and manage a high-value, high-yield personal portfolio of donors, stakeholders, and gatekeepers.
    • Represent CARE with external partners to develop an expanding community of donor support individuals and groups to creatively engage and mobilize support from new constituencies.
    • Key liaison to Impact Awards planning.
  2. MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
    • Manage the team to a high standard of individual and collective performance. Set fundraising goals, provide coaching and feedback, invest in the team’s professional development.
    • Partner with team to create strategies for donor engagement identify and implement professional development opportunities. Assist regional staff with implementing stewardship plans.
    • Hire, onboard, and train new staff and lead effectively during a time of organization transition.
    • Serve as a thought partner.

Qualifications:

  • A visionary team leader and fundraiser with demonstrated ability to think boldly, take risks, and implement new ways of identifying, reaching, and creatively cultivating and engaging a portfolio of 80+ high net worth donor individuals including million-dollar prospects
  • 10+ years of fundraising experience that includes major gifts from individuals, planned gifts and gifts from family foundations resulting in multi-million dollars in revenue.
  • 5+ years of directly managing a team, preferably a team of major gift fundraisers.
  • Demonstrated ability to form meaningful relationships with supporters and prospects, including with high and ultra-high net worth individuals, as well as other key stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and leading 7+ figure campaigns.
  • Extensive working and managerial knowledge of major and planned giving.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, and growing high-performing development teams.
  • Outstanding communication skills across multiple platforms, contexts and communities.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours (nights and weekends).
