WRI India, an independent charity legally registered as the India Resources Trust, provides objective information and practical proposals to foster environmentally sound and socially equitable development. WRI India’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations. Through research, analysis, and recommendations, WRI India puts ideas into action to build transformative solutions to protect the earth, promote livelihoods, and enhance human well-being.
We are inspired by and associated with World Resources Institute (WRI), a global research organization. Currently over 250 researchers are working with WRI India in our offices at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Position Overview:
The Managing Editor will lead the team that ideates and creates effective content that meets editorial standards in support of the Institute’s communication strategy.
The Managing Editor will work closely with the leadership, programmatic and content teams to ensure alignment with editorial and branding objectives. This will include developing and implementing an editorial strategy that achieves engagement with the Institute’s key stakeholders through appropriate content experiences.
The Managing Editor will have principal editorial responsibility for institutional content from ideation to execution; this will involve working with the teams to pitch engagement ideas based on strategic briefs as well as overseeing the processes of writing and editing content.
The Managing Editor will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure the efficient execution and delivery of editorial deliverables across channels and formats – viz. editorial products such as research-based articles, reports, policy papers, data-driven insights, long-form content, e-books, branded content, event related content as well as digital and social media content on the WRI India website and social media handles. Also, the Managing Editor will have oversight over the editorial quality of WRI India videos as well as other digital initiatives.
How your day will unfold:
- Quality assurance: Setting up and implementing editorial systems, processes and scalable quality frameworks with global benchmarks for all content deliverables.
- Editing: Reviewing, rewriting and editing pieces to ensure factual accuracy, research protocols, domain expertise, and quality of language before publication.
- Communication: Ensuring programmatic requirements are communicated effectively to content writers and editors. Responding to and resolving queries that come from editors and writers.
- Evaluation: Conduct performance assessment for internal teams of writers and editors as well as vendors on a regular basis to satisfy evolving quality expectations.
- Guidance: Working with the content management team to create concept notes, writing guidelines, and instruction videos.
- Execution: Creating execution strategies for internal content teams and vendors in collaboration with the Operations teams. Manage an integrated editorial system with oversight over content pipelines, workflows and deadlines.
- Leadership: Lead a team of writers, designers, stakeholder resources to manage editorial content across channels and formats.
- Research Communication: Work on the production of expert reports and editorial products in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders for the dissemination of key findings and insights.
- Event Content: Assist in the planning and production of editorial content for WRI India events and IPs.
- Coordination: Work with internal stakeholders on various ongoing initiatives and projects as well as new opportunities to develop content approaches and ideas.
Qualifications and requirements we seek:
- At least 15-20 years of senior level editorial experience with demonstrated expertise in writing, editing, content strategy, and content creation at a major national media company
- Demonstrated editorial competency in relevant domains, viz. science and technology affairs, environment and development, public policy/parliamentary-legislative affairs, economic affairs and related domains.
- Senior level editorial experience in managing the Op-Ed/Opinion pages or sections/editions of national newspapers, magazines, channels etc.
- Editorial experience in feature writing/long-form content is preferred; experience in only reporting news will not be considered appropriate.
- Passionate about storytelling, a keen follower of trends and innovations, and an innate understanding of editorial strategies and formats to engage audiences.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment, doing so while ensuring quality standards and meeting deadlines.
- Effective editorial management with long experience in running editorial systems and processes
- Team leadership skills the ability to mentor and guide team members and collaborate proactively with peers.
- Strong accountability, and a problem-solver who is detail-oriented and has a demonstrated ability to manage and successfully execute a project from start to finish.
- Strong experience in managing multiple projects at the same time.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding of editorial production including design aspects.
Salary and Benefits: 2100000-2500000 CTC PA
Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.
