GIZ International Services (InS) is an integral division of GIZ. We offer the experience, the regional and technical know-how of GIZ in the global market and provide international clients with expertise in terms of economic and result-oriented services.

GIZ International Services is shortlisted for the EU-funded tender: „Strengthening the Management of Chemical Waste in the Eastern and Central African Region” in Burundi, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Sechelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

The overall objectiv The overall objective (Impact) to which this action contributes is to address specific global and transregional threats to peace, international security and stability, through enhancing governance and cooperation on CBRN risk prevention, detection and mitigation.

The specific objective (Outcome) of this contract is reduction of risks and threats emanating from improperly managed chemical waste. This will be possible due to increased capacity on management of chemical waste in all relevant sectors and development of a multidisciplinary culture in management of hazardous waste in the region. This will be in accordance with the regulations, recommendations and international standards that are associated with waste whatever their origin (human, animal, agricultural, environmental) and nature (solid, effluent, gaseous). An important aspect of this project is supporting the training of personnel regarding good management practices of chemical waste in the socio-cultural contexts of the region. More specifically the project will contribute to specific objectives through the following actions: Transfer international and interregional best practices for the management of chemical wastes.

 

Your tasks

 

Main task: implementation, under the direction of the Project Team Leader, supporting all work packages related to chemical issues

 

Your profile

 

Qualifications and skills:

  • University-level education in the fields of environment, and / or chemistry
  • The association of university training in environmental sciences with chemistry is desirable
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, French is necessary (both written and spoken)
  • Good teaching skills
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate

General professional experience:

  • At least 10 years of professional experience

Specific professional experience

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the field of hazardous waste management
  • Experience in chemical waste management in the field is desirable
  • Thorough knowledge of procedures for sorting, collecting, storing, treating and disposing of hazardous chemical waste
  • Experience in the treatment and disposal sectors in chemical waste management is desirable
  • Experience as an expert / trainer, of hazardous chemical waste, in international organizations is desirable
  • Experience in developing and / or implementing a chemical hazardous waste management system is desirable
  • Experience in developing guides is desirable
  • Competence in team management, preferably with multidisciplinary teams

 

Location information

 

The operational base for the project is the Contractor’s office and any of the partner countries where activities will be carried out. Activities and events will take place either in partner countries or in the EU.

The intended start date is June 2025 and the period of implementation of the contract will be 48 months from this date.
