Title of Assignment: External Office Support Consultant

Expected duration of assignment: April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026
1. Objective of the assignment
Supporting the Office in its representation and substantive functions including coverage and reporting on a wide range of UNHQ-led processes; analysis of the impact of discussions and outputs on WIPO’s program of work and interests; supporting engagement in inter-agency mechanisms and contributing to the overall implementation of activities organized by the Office.
2. Deliverables/services
(a) Participate in tracking and providing intelligence on key intergovernmental processes taking place at UNHQ (including UN General Assembly and Economic and Social Council processes) with a focus on WIPO priority areas;
(b) Support the Office engagement with New York-based UN entities and Member State representations in support of WIPO’s mandate and program of work;
(c) Coordinate and prepare contributions for WIPO’s engagement in relevant UN interagency mechanisms;
(d) Support the design and implementation of awareness-raising initiatives at UNHQ;
(e) Keep informed of developments related to sustainable development, digital cooperation, technology and innovation, as well as other issues of interest to WIPO; and
(f) Perform other tasks requested by the Supervisor in connection with the Office’s program of work.
3. Reporting
The Consultant will report to the Director of the WIPO Representative Office in New York.
4. Profile (e.g., area of specialization/expertise, specific knowledge/skills/experience)
Advanced University degree in international relations, or economics, development studies or public administration.
At least ten years of proven work experience in the UN system.
Excellent knowledge of the United Nations system, UN Organs and UN inter-agency coordination mechanisms.
Good understanding of internationally agreed development frameworks, UN reform initiatives, as well as the works of multilateral diplomacy.
Knowledge of the work of UN system representation Offices to the UN headquarters would be desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English, and good working knowledge of French or Spanish.
5. Duration of contract and payment
The contract is set to begin on April 1, 2025, and end on to March 31, 2026, and will be at a working rate of four days a week (80%). Applicants are requested to provide an indication of their remuneration expectations in USD (daily rate).
