Job Description

Every person has the right to live in safety, and yet domestic and family violence remains a critical crisis reaching epidemic proportions in Australia. 54 Reasons is one of the largest providers of DFV refuge services in Queensland. This work is critical in providing families with opportunities to be safe from violence and reclaim their lives. Be part of this dynamic network of teams working together to deliver high quality support to vulnerable families.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this part-time (9 days per fortnight) contract opportunity to June 2028, you’ll work within a team to provide case management and safety planning support to women and children who are escaping or experiencing domestic violence, within the refuge accommodation program. The role attracts some minimal rostered on-call responsibilities, and reports to the Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Facilitating the provision of safe accommodation to women and children escaping domestic and family violence.
  • Conducting thorough gendered analysis of risk and needs assessments, within a trauma informed case management framework.
  • Responding to risk with comprehensive safety planning.
  • Working with families and their goals, to ultimately source appropriate, safe and sustainable housing free from violence.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to build relationships and further advocate for client needs.

Does this sound like you?

You’re an experienced or emerging domestic and family violence practitioner with high levels of initiative and flexibility alongside cultural sensitivity and knowledge. You’re able to respond calmly and effectively in crisis and complex situations. Importantly, you possess a thorough understanding of the impact of domestic violence on women and children and are able to apply that within a trauma-informed practice framework.

This role requires:

  • A Bachelor/Diploma of Social Work, Psychology or relevant Human Service Qualification and/or significant experience in a similar service
  • Knowledge and understanding of domestic and family violence, including the impact on children.
  • Experience working with families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Current drivers’ licence.

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.

We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is 680+ people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

We are creative, connected and accountable, bringing energy, guts and ideas to all we do to champion children in Australia and partner with families, communities and partners to bring about change.

Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development. Our leave provisions include personal, ceremonial and family violence leave as well as the ability to purchase additional leave. Remuneration is benchmarked and we offer full non-profit salary packaging benefits.

Other benefits include:

  • Award rate salary (SCHADS 4.1 – $41.52 per hour) plus full salary packaging benefits.
  • Festive leave in addition to regular leave benefits.
  • Health and wellbeing support, including EAP.
  • Monthly supervision sessions and individual learning plans to assist in your career development.
