54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full position maximum term (until June 2024) role based in Brisbane, you’ll work with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse families with multiple and complex needs who have been assessed as not meeting the threshold for statutory intervention, but who require significant support to improve family wellbeing and reduce risk of harm to children. As part of our Intensive Family Support – CALD team, you’ll report to our Team Leader, Florence Opaye.

You will make an impact by:

  • Work with vulnerable families who have children aged 0-18 years, identifying areas of concern in parenting / family wellbeing and develop a case management strategy through collaborative planning with families to address these issues.
  • Build and maintain strong networks, service delivery partnerships, and effective referral pathways
  • Collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation and reporting
  • Provide evidence-based parenting information and education material
  • Promote skill development through modelling, practice, discussion and other practical support

Does this sound like you?

You have experience working collaboratively with families to achieve the best outcomes for children. A sound understanding of the impact of trauma on child development and case management skills to support parents and carers around the needs of children to increase safety and promote overall family functioning.

This role requires:

  • Understanding of the issues affecting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse peoples in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse peoples
  • Understanding of how trauma impacts child development
  • Strong computer and data collection skills
  • Exceptional teamwork and communication skills
