The burden of disease experienced by severely malnourished infants is significant in low-income countries. Gut dysbiosis, an imbalance in microbial composition, is thought to play a role in nutrient malabsorption, leading to underweight infants and failure to thrive. Supplementation with B. infantis strain has been shown to colonize the gut and is associated with significant changes to fecal microbiome composition in healthy breastfed infants.This is a clinical trial to demonstrate increased weight gain with B.infantis supplementation in underweight infants (WAZ<-2).

Duties and responsibilities

The Field Research Assistant will report to Principal Investigator and will be responsible to identify study participants, perform screening, enrollment and collect data with the objective of supporting research studies within the guidelines of project-specific field research procedures; and organisational values and guidelines (such as Institutional Governance Framework – IGF and Gender Diversity Guidelines).

He/She will be responsible for:

• Patient screening, counseling, and enrolment into the study;
• Performing study activities including data collection, patient follow-up, field visits, and logistics management;
• Monitoring the activities of the health workers;
• Report to the Field Research Supervisor, Research Investigator, and the Principal Investigator;
• Assisting physicians with the management of the study participants;
• Ensuring collection of proper biological sample and storage of the sample;
• Collection of investigation reports properly;
• Preparing weekly reports and study updates.

Required qualification and experience:

• Bachelors from relevant discipline.
• 3 years of experience in field research.
• Previous experience of working at Dhaka Hospital, icddr,b;
• Previous experience of working in a clinical trial;
• Priority will be given to those with an experience of working in probiotic intervention trials.

Location: Dhaka

Contract Type and duration:

• CSA basis for 04 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

• Tk. 35,867/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
• Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
