Field Research Officer (Adv#194/2023)

In order to provide the necessary and appropriate services and to support to ensure the healthy development of the children of Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals in Cox’s Bazar (CXB), we urgently need to investigate how ECD unfolds and how to design programs and interventions for this population. The proposed study aims to identify powerful sources of risk and resilience in this very particular culture and context, to inform and support programs to design interventions to provide the much-needed support to ensure healthy development and learning within limitations, and preparing them and equip them with human capital to navigate a very uncertain future.

Key responsibilities:

The Field Research Officer will report to the Research Investigator and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing research with the objective of conducting high-quality research within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values. S/he will be involved in –

  • Ensure proper project implementation in the field through planning fieldworks (allocation of locations and duties, requisitions for logistics/ transport / petty cash management etc.) and executing field implementation plans e.g. training field staff, monitoring and ensuring quality data collection, resolve field related issues, etc. as per protocol;
  • Maintain communication with different departments of GoB (RRRC, CiC, UNO, DC, Thana) related to FDMN camps and obtain required permission for field activity;
  • Guide team members on the completion of tasks, activities, reports, and documents;
  • Mentor and train staff on-the-job in the field; Provide feedback to supervisor on team members’ performance in order to have a strong and motivated team;
  • Ensure support to the field site activities by ensuring timely supply of laboratory items including blood/saliva drawing sets, testing kits, reagents etc.
  • Monitor specimen collection, transportation, and safe storage maintaining SOP;
  • Overall people management in the field and keeping them motivated.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • M.Sc. in Child Development/Psychology with good academic records;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mixed method research/ data collection preferably in child development such as BEYLEY, maternal nutrition, anthropometry and;
  • Experience in TAB base data collection/management using SurveyCTO, google platform and MS Excel;
  • Experience in working at the Rohingya population (FDMN camps) will get preference;
  • Candidates familiar to the Rohinga language will get preference;
  • Adequate knowledge on field research works, and quantitative and qualitative data collection. Motivational skills. Training skills. Interviewing skills.

Location: Dhaka

Contract Type and duration:

  • CSA basis for 3 months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of fund and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Tk. 57,048 /-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
