Field Research Supervisor (Adv#216/2023)

The Virology Laboratory conducts research and provides support to projects and training. It focuses on both human and animal viruses, including but not limited to SARS-CoV-2, rotavirus, norovirus, influenza, dengue, and other respiratory viruses, nipah virus, HIV, HBV, and HCV. Laboratory scientists undertake research and activities as principal investigators, co-principal investigators, and co-investigators, collaborating with both national and international institutes/universities, as well as with different divisions within icddr,b.
Key Responsibilities:
The Field Research Supervisor, reporting to the Assistant Scientist, will be required to plan, organize and execute field activities with the objective of conducting high-quality research according to the guidelines of the research protocol and the organizational values and guidelines. The specific areas of responsibilities are detailed below:
  • Execute the field specimen collection plan, which includes ensuring proper logistic supply, on-site storage, inventory management, and appropriate use of diagnostic reagents within their shelf-life;
  • Monitor and follow up with the team for collecting specimens following SOP’s and are transported to the laboratory in timely manner;
  • Coordinate with the on-site study physician and the Principal Investigator (PI) of the study for smooth specimen collection;
  • Monitor the record keeping of on-site incubators, freezers, calibration of equipment;
  • Monitor the schedule and Coordinate with the relevant vendors/stakeholders for necessary calibration of the equipment in timely manner;
  • Organize biological specimen shipment;
  • Ensure accurate data collection as well as data quality;
  • Arrange and provide training to the junior staff on data/specimen collection process;
  • Make sure all study participants receive the intervention in the correct sequence and amount;
  • Manage team and provide feedback to supervisor regarding team members’ performance to foster a strong and motivated team.
Required qualification and experience:
  • Masters in Social Science or any other relevant domain is preferred;
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in health sector focusing on collection and maintenance of biological specimens;
  • Candidates should have adequate experience of dealing with different DICs and hospital staffs;
  • Candidates must be team friendly with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment.

Dhaka
Contract Type and duration:
  • Fixed Term Contract; duration will be for 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
  • Annual Tk. 5,21,070/- inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances and other admissible benefits.
  • 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
