Scientific Officer – Agronomy – ICRISAT Development Centre

ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals, for the position of ‘Scientific Officer – Agronomy – ICRISAT Development Centre’’ to support activities of Global Research Program on Resilient Farm and Food Systems (GRP-RF&FS). There is a requirement of 1 position where the incumbents will be based in Patancheru, Hyderabad. This position is intended to support research in farming system.

ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometers of land in 55 countries, the semi- arid or dryland tropics has over 2 billion people and 644 million of these are the poorest of the poor. ICRISAT and its partners help empower these disadvantaged populations to overcome poverty, hunger and a degraded environment through better agricultural production systems.

ICRISAT is headquartered at Patancheru near Hyderabad, India, with two regional hubs and eight country offices in sub-Saharan Africa. ICRISAT conducts research on its mandate crops of chickpea, pigeonpea, groundnut, sorghum, pearl millet and finger millet in the arid and semi-arid tropics. Tropical dryland areas are usually seen as resource-poor and perennially beset by shocks such as drought, thereby trapping dryland communities in poverty and hunger and making them dependent on external aid. Responsibilities:

·       To support Principal Investigator in conducting strategic research experimentation at on-station

·       Record scientific data periodically on growth and yield parameters as well as undertake the crop cutting experiments to record yields and other benefits

·       Compile and analyze the dataset, prepare report and document the findings

·       Work with multi-disciplinary team of scientists in arranging different capacity building programs and support in documentation

·       Support supervisor in synthesizing project reports, preparations of project proposals and research publications.

·       In addition to the above, any other responsibilities as entrusted by supervisor

Essential criteria:

·       M Sc. Agriculture with specialization in Agronomy from reputed institution with agricultural related experience

·       Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

·       Person with flair for field work, group interactions and suitable experience will be preferred

General:

This is a contractual position for a period of 36 months.
