For this exciting opportunity, we are only looking for candidates from Kenya or individuals with a valid work permit in Kenya.

As a Finance Manager you will have overall responsibility for financial management, accounting and financial reporting for projects in Sudan. The position reports to the Country Director and is part of the NPA Senior Management Team. Because of the situation in Sudan, the small NPA country team has relocated to Nairobi and is working remotely; the finance manager will be managing a colleague based in Egypt, with other team members based in Uganda.

NPA started working in Sudan in 2022 and currently works within two programming areas. Civil Society and Humanitarian programmes are implemented indirectly with partners funded through 2 main sources of funding. The programme is actively seeking additional funding from both existing and new donors.

In addition, the Sudan Finance manager may also be called upon to provide punctual support to other NPA operations in the region, in particular to the Rwanda and South Sudan country programmes. The position is based in Nairobi, with possible travel to both South Sudan and Rwanda to provide punctual support on the basis of need and availability.

Your general responsibilities will be:

Overall responsibility for NPA Sudan programme’s finance management including accounting, auditing, monitoring activities and smooth day-to-day running of the financial operation.

This includes:

  • Analysis and forecast
  • Budget and controls
  • Financial accounting and book-keeping
  • Financial reporting and audits
  • Partner finance oversight
  • Capacity strengthening
  • Management

We are looking for a candidate with the following experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in similar finance management position
  • Relevant higher education in finance or other relevant field
  • Good working knowledge of accounting system/s and preferably of the Agresso accounting software
  • Experience in managing and capacity developing finance staff, also in remote management mode.
  • Experience from being part of a management team
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English
  • Experience in working with partner organizations in a finance role

We will prefer candidates who also have experience with the following:

  • Working with multiple donor budget formats – including UN agencies
  • Finance management in both humanitarian and development programmes
  • Working for INGOs or international organizations is preferable
  • Working understanding of ICT-systems and experience with MS Office applications, including advanced user level in excel.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural/multi-national setting, and with a high level of respect for local culture
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Strong managerial and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire and build competence of staff and achieve results through others
  • Practical and proven skills in negotiation and conflict resolution with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to cope under pressure and flexible to handle changing priorities
