The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Centre, is on the lookout for a talented individual to join our team in Accra, Ghana as a Finance Officer.

The Finance Officer is responsible for performing a variety of finance-related tasks in the projects implemented by the IWMI Ghana office. The Finance Officer will support the project leaders and implementation teams with day-to-day financial and project management operations under all projects. Additionally, the Finance Officer will prepare monthly forecasts, financial closure reports, provide financial accounting, account reconciliation, budget management, and coordinate with various units at IWMI-HQ for the different projects implemented in Ghana.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handle day-to-day financial operations in the country office in accordance with donor requirements, internal controls, and policies and procedures of IWMI.
  • Liaise with the HQ finance team and provide data related to financial operations, cash flow, and budgets in timely manner for the preparation of consolidated reports.
  • Stay abreast of donor rules and regulations, Ghana statutory requirements and IWMI’s policies and procedures related to finance and procurement to ensure all the financial activities are in compliance with associated rules and regulation.
  • Update the systems with accurate project financial data in timely manner to ensure the financial data is up to date.
  • Review project expenses monthly and ensure they are charged to the correct WBS lines; liaise with respective staff to correct any incorrect charges in the following month to ensure the accuracy of data.
  • Ensure that projects are charged only with eligible expenses as per the accountable grant agreement, and address exceptions with the Team Leader.
  • Liaise with IWMI HQ, Project Leaders, and Researchers for project code issuance and consolidate execution site-wise budgets for different projects.
  • Address project budget-related queries for donor-funded projects in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with various IWMI-HQ departments and gather data to support the financial aspects of project implementation in Ghana.
  • Maintain digital records of all financial documents for uploading in the SAP system.
  • Provide support for process improvements and actively participate in scenario testing in the TSIP system.
  • Support the annual audits of donor-funded projects by providing documents and schedules as needed and coordinate with downstream partners when necessary.
  • Produce accurate financial reports as needed for better decision making.
  • Undertake relevant assignments as requested by IWMI Ghana management as needed.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Essential,

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of highly relevant experience with a strong understanding of accounting, financial analysis, and financial reporting principles and practices.

Desirable,

  • Experience with international organizations and development partners.
  • Part professional qualification obtained through Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Essential,

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office package especially in Word and Excel coupled with good computer skills to analyse data, consolidate information, and track measures.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent analytical and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and new procedures quickly.
  • Attention to detail, precision, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated service approach and personal organization coupled with the ability to multi-task.
  • Personal attributes include high standards of conduct, respect, flexibility, and sound work ethics.
  • Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.

This is a nationally recruited position and only Ghanaian nationals will be considered. IWMI offers a competitive salary and benefits package, inclusive of health insurance, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and long-term disability coverage. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
