Job Description

We need you to join a dedicated team to maximise its impact on the lives of families and communities in North Queensland. In this varied and challenging role, you’ll ensure individuals are supported and provided with financial counselling and resources. You’ll help foster lasting links with the community and encourage active engagement with the services that we’re proud to deliver.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

A place where your purpose matters. Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

It takes all types of personalities and talents to drive our organisation– yours included. We value a healthy work-life balance and ensure our people feel connected to each other and our impact. Learn from inspiring people and grow from a connection to our strong local and global networks. From our programs to our support services – this is the place to realise your purpose.

A place to make a difference:

In this part time, maximum term position (4 days per week, through to end of June 2026), you’ll support families and the community to increase their financial literacy and learn money management skills. Reporting to the Team Leader, you’ll provide support in both group settings and on an individual basis, in the centre or via outreach in the community.

We have two roles available: one based in Doomadgee, and the other in Normanton.

You will make a difference by:

  • Delivering financial literacy information, education and support
  • Facilitating group workshops on money management skills
  • Building and maintaining strong networks, service delivery partnerships and effective referral pathways
  • Supporting individuals to access utility or telco hardship programs and No Interest Scheme Loans
  • Collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation, and reporting requirements

A place to feel valued:

You’re an enthusiastic and committed professional, with experience in working within a high performing team. Your highly developed cultural awareness and sensitivity, partnered with excellent communication skills, will enable you to build community networks and lasting relationships. We’ll recognise your contribution and provide you the support to ensure you can bring your best, knowing here you have the space and opportunity to grow.

Bringing your best every day, means:

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver financial literacy information in culturally appropriate ways
  • Certificate III in Financial Literacy, Community Services or similar qualification, or willingness to undertake
  • Ability to negotiate and advocate on behalf of families
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience coordinating events and activities in the community

A place to belong:
