Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Safety and Security (DSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight to the UN Security Management System (UNSMS) to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the programmes and activities of the United Nations System. Within the Division of Partnerships and Specialized Support (DPSS), the Training and Development Section (TDS) develops learning modules and related materials on UN safety and security-related topics, and conducts security training missions for United Nations (UN) security personnel, Designated Officials, Security Management Team members and UN personnel in the field.
The USG UNDSS realigned TDS’ roles in 2020 and mandated the Section to coordinate security training globally through development of standardized training material and evaluations. The onset of the COVID pandemic also constrained the delivery of in-person training. UNDSS Training and Development Section (TDS) is currently leading a process to update the Emergency Trauma Bag (ETB) and Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) training materials.
This will include translating the ETB materials into Arabic, French and other required languages as well as mentoring/instructing ETB and IFAK practioners and instructors on the revised materials. Under the overall oversight of the Chief, Training and Development Section the First Responder Programme (FRP)Technical and Support Trainer Consultant reports directly to the Team Leader/Security Training Officer in Nairobi, Kenya to develop ETB and IFAK materials for UNDSS.
The proposed consultancy will support the components
• Mentoring/instructing new ETB instructors in Arabic and English
• Provide a Final translation of Arabic ETB materials for publication
• Development of IFAK materials
• Provide Final translation of Arabic IFAK materials for publication
• Facilitation of ETB and/or IFAK as co-trainer
Qualifications/special skills
A minimum of Post Graduate degree/ Masters in medicine, learning and development, adult learning, training or a related area is required. A first level degree with two years of qualifying experience maybe accepted in lieu of Masters degree.
At least 7 years experience in designing, developing, delivering and evaluating security or occupational health and safety training. Experience in conducting security training in an international humanitarian or INGO environment is required
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat with Arabic part of the six official languages. For this post fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required.
