Duties and Responsibilities
Background
To assist the Operation and maintenance of Electrical Maintenance system technicians in performing the operation and routine planned preventive maintenance (PPM) as stated on the duties and responsibilities part.
The post is located in the Facilities Management Section, at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Under the direct supervision of the Electrical Engineering Technician/Engineer in the FMS Operations Unit, the Electrical Maintenance worker will be responsible for the following functions but not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities
I. Operation and Maintenance of Electrical Works
– Assistance in the Supervision of day to day operation and maintenance activities of the electrical works of electromechanical contractor at UNECA premises.
– Assistance and Supervision and hands on participation of all day today activities of electrical
works of contractors on the basis of daily operation and maintenance schedule and update the
maintenance manual, to do list and history card of the electrical systems.
– Hands on participation and supervision over contractor’s personnel whenever important intervention is required regarding major equipment maintenance and installation works like backup Generators, UPS units etc to ensure appropriate completion and compliance with applicable standards.
– Carry out planned preventive maintenance of electrical equipment’s, backup generators, UPS units, security systems, battery charging units, building automation system, fire alarm system kitchen and medical equipment’s as well as testing equipment’s as appropriate.
– Maintain good working relation with utility power authority in order to achieve uninterrupted and steady power supply, as well as review and settlement of electric bills.
2. Preparation of Spare Part list and Store Management
– Prepares a list of annual spare parts in collaboration with the Central store and
Electromechanical contractors.
– Carry out and control daily issue of spare parts and consumable items for operation and
maintenance works from central store or satellite store as required
– Carry out and control inventory on regular consumption of each spare part, monitors the
available Stock and requests replenishment.
– Compiles list of needed spare parts, suggest suitable supplies and makes replenishment
requests as appropriate.
– Uses manual, computer and UN systems as required such as Excel, UMOJA and other to complete tasks and assist the Electrical Team
3. Workshop Management and safety
– Supervise and ensure a good state of all tools and machineries in the workshop. Analyze the
performance and identifies the faults in the equipment (if any), repair/maintain and re-order.
– Supervise and ensure implementation of proper safety procedures and ensure proper utilization of all safety gears, tools and machineries in the workshop and work place.
– Prepare daily operation and maintenance and other relevant activity reports to the supervisor
using relevant software’s like AutoCAD, MS office, Ms project, etc
– conversant in using of emails, Fax, telephone in day to day reports and charts and assist
the supervisor in the preparation of technical specification and BOQ,using the available
resources in office and workshop. Performs other relevant duties commensurate with the
skills and operational requirements of FMS.
4. The work varies from preparing draft BOQ, planning minor project activities, and complex
installation works, performing manual utility tasks (lubrication, equipment cleaning/painting,
supervising small teams) and varied maintenance works from normal hour work weeks to
having scheduled work hours for different shifts, evening, weekend, holiday shifts and
emergency calls any time
Qualifications/special skills
Highschool completion is required.
Electrical Engineering related experience is required.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and listening English is required.
