In view of recent expansion of maintenance services to all UN Agencies, in the compound following the UN common house initiative as well as the urgent need of metal works and respective minor repairs in the Old Office building and New office buildings, the need arises to hire IC staff for the maintenance of metallic materials and office accessories.
Duties and Responsibilities
This post is located in the Facilities Management Section, at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Under the supervision of and reporting to Civil Works and House Keeping Unit Head, the Construction, and Maintenance Worker will be responsible for providing proper and efficient maintenance on all metal structures and fixtures in ECA premises and manage all the activities in the metal workshop. The responsibilities of the incumbent include, but will not be limited to
• Maintenance and Repair- Checks and repairs defective locks, modifies and adjusts or replaces metal doors ,windows, desks, shelves, metal grills, manhole covers, hinges, hydraulic door closers, filling cabinets, drawers, window stoppers as well as provide maintenance assistance to all staff including the residence of the Executive Secretary;
• Construction and Assembling- Remove broken glasses on doors and windows, cuts and replaces them with new pieces. Prepares traffic and directional signs, manhole covers, grills, fences, security booths, constructing, assembling, and fixing metal structures and elements. Install and maintains aluminum vertical curtains. Remove and re-installs aluminum partitions window films;
• Carrying out related activities in the metal work shop such as- Printing names on the Demographer machine, duplicating Keys, cutting and assembling glasses, welding different kinds of metals and performing on request for services, preparation of materials and spare parts requisition;
• Perform any other duties whenever requested by the supervisor and chief of FMS;
Qualifications/special skills
Highschool completion is required.
Civil works and construction skills are required
Languages
Fluency in spoken and listening English is mandatory.
