Duties and Responsibilities
Background
To assist the Operation and maintenance of Mechanical Maintenance system technicians in performing the operation and routine planned and preventive maintenance (PPM) as stated on the duties and responsibilities part.
Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships
The post is located in the Facilities Management Section, at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). Under the direct supervision of the Mechanical Engineering Technician in operations Unit, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the following functions but not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities
I. Operation and Maintenance of Mechanical Works
– Supervise the performance of Electro-Mechanical contractor and follow up daily practical implementation of the mechanical maintenance schedule at UNECA compound and Executive Secretary House
– Co-ordinate and Participate in all day today mechanical activities performed by the Electro-Mechanical contractor in accordance to the mechanical maintenance schedule.
– Revise and update the maintenance manual, to do list and history card of the mechanical installation.
– Make sure the functionality and good state of all mechanical installation in the compound like HVAC system, sanitary installation, Fire Fighting system, Kitchen Equipment’s and etc.
– Check and correct regularly all safety controls, like safety valves ,pressure switch, level
Indicator and temperature sensor.
– Supervise and make sure the cleanness and the good state of the Mechanical Equipment’s, Workshops and all mechanical rooms in the compound.
– Maintain good working relation with water authority in order to achieve uninterrupted water supply to the compound,
– Collect water bills and settle payments monthly in timely manner. Make sure to collect and settle the bills for water meters located at Executive Secretary House and UNECA compound.
– Assist in team work of other trades
2. Preparation of Spare Part list and Store Management
– Prepare annual spare parts list of mechanical items needed and monitor their availability in the store.
– Carry out and control daily issue of spare parts and consumable items for operation and
maintenance works from central store or satellite store as required
– Coordinate the annual inventory of mechanical equipment with the inventory unit
– Prepare annual consumption list of consumable items used by the contractor
– Collaborate with UMOJA team to update Real Estate Management System
3. Workshop Management and safety
– Supervise and ensure a good state of all tools and machineries in the workshop. Analyze the
performance and identifies the faults in the equipment (if any).
– Supervise and ensure implementation of proper safety procedures and ensure proper utilization of all safety gears, tools and machineries in the workshop and work place.
– Prepare daily operation and maintenance and other relevant activity report to the supervisor using relevant software’s like AutoCAD, MS office, MS project, etc.
– Conversant in using of emails, Fax, telephone in day to day reports and charts and assist
the supervisor in the preparation of technical specification and BOQ, using the available
resources in office and workshop.
4. Work Plan
– The work varies from preparing draft BOQ, planning minor project activities, complex installation works and various maintenance works in normal working hours per week and to having overtime works, evening, weekend, holiday shifts and emergency call any time.
Qualifications/special skills
Highschool completion is required.
Mechanical engineering skill is required
Languages
Fluency in English language is required.
