Your team

Within the The European Green Sky Directorate, the Aviation Intelligence Unit (AIU) leverages a huge range of EUROCONTROL data and analytical insights to promote the Agency’s expertise and provides key data for decisionmakers.

The advertised job is assigned to STATFOR in the Business Intelligence & Statistics Unit in AIU. STATFOR is in charge of the production of the forecasts and statistical analyses for the Aviation Intelligence Unit within the European Green Sky Directorate (EGSD) as well as for the Network Manager (NM). STATFOR ensures timely delivery of aviation intelligence reports to support better understanding of past and future trends in Europe.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Collaborate with internal and external data suppliers (e.g. Data Services, Aviation Sustainability teams) to process, cleanse and verify the integrity of data used for analyses so as to ensure the good quality of the STATFOR input and output.
  • Act as data steward for STATFOR datasets and communicate the relevant business information (e.g. definition of data, source, structure, format) to the Data Governance teams.
  • Review, improve and participate to the development of existing and new products, methods, tools and processes to increase and optimise the efficiency and the quality of the forecasts and analysis reports, in particular focus on automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
  • Analyse and identify trends (e.g. market segments) to contribute to air traffic forecasts and statistics.
  • Draft and/ or contribute to briefings, market updates, presentation material, reports and technical documents in accordance with agreed quality standards.
  • Present results of analyses and forecasts at various meetings (technical fora, Agency stakeholder consultation, etc.) and ensure proper jargon depending on the type of audience.
  • Act as a focal point for STATFOR clients; respond to questions from internal and external stakeholders and identify solutions to technical queries.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • Completed university studies of 4 years in a relevant domain (Economics, Finance, etc) or completed university of 3 years plus 1-year relevant professional experience.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant working experience to perform the advertised tasks.
  • Data management experience (collect, clean, filter, check, analyse, validate, interpret data, product statistics, etc.), preferably with air traffic data.
  • Experience in using forecasting and statistical analysis methods.
  • Experience with common data science toolkits (e.g. SAS statistical software, R or Python). Proficiency in, at least, one of these is highly desirable.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools, such as PowerBI, ggplot, Shiny, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience in using databases and with Cloud environment.
  • Technical drafting skills (English).

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will be required to become a basic user (A1) of French before the end of the probation period.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications .
