Job Description:

Retail Van Driver (Furniture)
Location: Based from British Red Cross Redhill shop
Hours: 35 per week (Shop hours are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £19,838 per annum

Would you like to use your driving skills to make a difference to people living in crisis?

We are looking for a Van Driver to manage the collections and deliveries for our Furniture & Electrical charity shop in Redhill, covering up to a 20 mile radius of the surrounding area. In this hands-on role, you will be an integral part of the area shop network, by helping to develop and grow stock generation contacts, seizing local opportunities and promoting the Red Cross as the charity of choice for stock donations.

Helping people in crisis begins at your local charity shop.
Full of gifts, clothes and even the odd vintage gem, our 330 shops across the UK are home to over 6,500 volunteers and 700 paid staff. Our team is bright and bubbly, and we love meeting people from all walks of life.
We want to make sure everyone that visits us has a great experience, and we never forget the contribution our shops make to helping those in crisis.

A day in the life of a Furniture Delivery Driver will involve working closely with the local shop managers, shop staff and volunteers, acting as the first point of contact for shops in relation to matters of stock generation, stock transfer, collection and disposal.

To be a successful Furniture Delivery Driver, you’ll need:

  • A full UK driving licence which you have held for a minimum of two years and allows you to operate a manual transmission vehicle.
  • To be a confident and safe driver with previous van driving and delivery experience.
  • To know your way around a vehicle. You will have previous experience of basic vehicle maintenance and can keep paperwork updated, e.g. mileage logs.
  • To be physically able to lift and carry loads (within Health & Safety Manual Handling criteria)
  • To thrive on delivering excellent customer service.

There may be an occasional requirement for weekend working.

You will be driving a British Red Cross vehicle, so please note that, due to vehicle insurance policy requirements, applicants must have held their licence for a minimum of two full years. As driving is a feature of this position, appropriate driver checks will be completed in line with current organisational policy.

The closing date for applications is 23.59 on Sunday 14th May 2023 with interviews to follow.

In return for your commitment and expertise, you’ll get:

  • Holidays: You’ll get 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays) and the option to buy an additional 5 days leave.
  • Pension Scheme: We offer up to 6% contributory pension.
  • Flexible working: We will do what we can to make sure you work in a way that suits you.
  • Learning & Development Opportunities: We are one of the UK’s largest charities and have a wide range of career opportunities. We also provide comprehensive learning opportunities for staff to develop themselves.
  • Discounts: You’ll have access to brilliant discounts through the Blue Light Discount Card and our own employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Support – Staff wellbeing is always priority. You’ll have access to mental health and wellbeing support.
  • Team Working – You will be working as part of a team that is supporting our mission of helping people in crisis.
  • Cycle2Work -The cycle to work scheme enables you to lease a bicycle.
  • Season ticket loan – We offer an interest free loan to buy a season ticket for travel between home and work.

At The British Red Cross, we pride ourselves on our diverse workforce, and ensuring we have an inclusive environment for all our staff and volunteers. We remain committed to ensuring our teams can bring their true selves to work without risk or fear of discrimination. We do this through regular data reporting, and the support of our internal Race and Equality Network (REEN), LGBT+ Network, our Disability and Wellness Network (DAWN), Gender Network, Carers Network and Youth Network.
