THE OPPORTUNITY

Plan international Ghana is looking to employ the services of a highly skilled, experienced and qualified professional to join its ranks as Gender Specialist to lead the design and conduct of organizational development strategy, organizational capacity assessment, training and support of development of organizational systems for partner organisations whiles ensuring Gender Equality and Inclusion for local, youth, women-led, and women’s rights organizations for its “Women’s Voice and Leadership project – Ghana”.

The role is part of a cross functional project team responsible for quality implementation of the Women’s Voice and Leadership project.

ABOUT YOU

The Gender Specialist will be responsible and ultimately accountable for facilitating Participatory Institutional Assessments (PIAs) and capacity building strategies, adapting or delivering new training tools, and building a cadre of core trainers and coaches from within women’s organization. This aims to provide organizational and technical support to the grantee, while interlacing all Feminist principles of co-creation of knowledge through collaboration, participation, transparency, meaningful and empowering processes and respect for the agency of women’s organizations. The Gender Specialist will also be responsible for leading the project’s gender equality strategy supporting women as meaningful actors and building a supportive environment collaboration and movement building. As an integral member of the project team, the Gender Specialist will ensure that a gender transformative approach is integrated in all aspect of the project and it its engagement with grantees, partners and other stakeholders (internal and external), cultivating strong and respectful relationships with women’s organizations will be an essential component of this accountability.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Capacity Development

  1. Agency Capacity Development – Empower women’s rights organizations by building their capacity in a broad range of organizational development areas through a combination of guidance, mentorship, training, facilitation of organizational assessments, and development of strategies and institutional strengthening plans.
  2. Content Development and Evaluations – Build on existing capacity assets to develop, plan, assess, analyse and design content to build the capacity of women’s rights organizations.

Gender Transformative Analysis and Programming: Lead the delivery of robust gender equality assessments to further define and validate the project’s strategy to deliver gender transformative programming and results.

Synergy, Coordination and Influencing: Foster and maintain productive and professional relationships with and between all project stakeholders, particularly with local women’s organizations, networks, and government stakeholders.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Strengthening / Development, Business,
  • At least 10 years of experience in building and strengthening organizations to achieve their leadership, mission, management and financial potential. Previous engagement with WROs is desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in designing, developing, and using local capacity development tools such as surveys, assessment tools, and institutional strengthening plans.
  • Proven ability to assess capacity building interventions and recommend appropriate activities to develop skills and promote organizational learning and change.
  • Strong understanding of feminist principles, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
  • Experience in developing and facilitating trainings for local institutions that cover a broad range of areas across leadership, financial management, resource mobilization, human resources, M&E, project management and influencing.
  • Demonstratable experience in coaching, mentorship and group facilitation.
  • Exceptional writing skills and experience in contributing to proposals.
  • Strong organization, planning, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Superb collaboration, diplomatic and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable experience with large institutional grants through donors such as Global Affairs Canada, USAID, DFID and European Union. Specifically, familiarity with Global Affairs Canada guidelines and requirements would be an asset.
  • Strong experience in partnership management and aptitude for cultivating strong relationships with multiple stakeholders including women’s organizations and government.
  • Ability to fully function in English (verbal and written) in essential. All donor reports, deliverables and communication will be in English.
  • Proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet).
