CARE, a leading humanitarian and development organization, has prioritized gender equality as part of its Vision 2030 and programmatic and organizational ambitions and targets. The Global Gender Cohort helps lead the advancement of gender equality globally through contributing to CARE’s Global VISION 2030 and the CARE USA Strategy. The Global Gender Cohort provides quality gender technical assistance through a Global Network of approximately 30 gender specialists who are deployable to meet CARE’s global demand for gender technical assistance throughout its programming and for a growing base of external clients. It also invests in building gender capacity across the organization. The Global Gender Cohort Lead is a member of the CARE USA Gender Justice Team (GJT) that sits within the Program Strategy and Impact (PSI) division at CARE. The Global Gender Cohort Lead reports directly to the Gender Director. The Cohort Lead is responsible for driving the success of the cohort as a consulting group and business venture. This requires strong business development acumen, experience and skills, strategic vision, a forward-thinking mindset and the ability to swiftly execute priority actions that will drive the success of the Gender Cohort, expand its reach and influence and ensure revenue.

Responsibilities:

  1. Forecasting, setting business strategy, and ensuring an effective cohort business model that drives demand for and provision of gender technical assistance
    • Review and strengthening of cohort model to drive effectiveness, impact, economies of scale/appropriate costing -fit for purpose; Market and landscape analysis, forecasting and setting growth benchmarks; Proactive outreach, networking, marketing and communication to promote the Cohort’s services to maintain and increase demand with both internal and external clients; Establishing offer of services and costing for training and technical support; Fostering external and potentially new clients.
  2. Coordination, Culture and Networks
    • Coordination, networking and exchange to assess both internal and external demands. Regular touchpoints with People and Culture, private sector teams, impact area teams and CARE International on strategic priorities and workplans. Joint quarterly reporting on Culture and Networks component of the gender pillar of the CARE USA strategy. Coordinate any gender and diversity trainings and orientation sessions to ensure complementarity and clear roles and responsibilities.
  3. Financial stewardship and overseeing technical and administrative management of the Global Gender Cohort
    • Ensure review and alignment of Cohort’s costing model to meet its financial needs through internal and external revenue; Develop financial strategy (with targets) balancing internal access to quality gender TA, while leveraging CARE’s offer of quality gender TA to external clients; Ensure monthly budget reviews to trouble shoot and maintain revenue goals; Prepare annual budgets; Support Cohort Technical Advisor in stakeholder communications and trouble shoot issues that might arise.
  4. Program Quality Oversight
    • Oversee quality and accountability of Cohort work, including management of Cohort Technical Advisor, for program quality assurance and comms of its work and achievements. Remain up to date on status of gender cohort assignments, troubleshoot as needed, provide oversight for program quality, and ensure communications of cohort assignments, work closely with Cohort Technical Advisor and the Finance Officer to ensure revenue is adequately tracked and allocated accordingly to the Cohort Pooled Fund.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, preferably with an academic emphasis on gender or formal training in gender studies and/or deep experience in gender programming.
  • The position requires strong business development acumen, experience and skills, strategic vision, a forward-thinking mindset and the ability to swiftly execute priority actions that will drive the success of the Gender Cohort, expand its reach and influence and ensure revenue growth. Specifically:
    • Strong business development skills and experience – including BD strategy and execution (market analysis, forecasting and target setting).
    • Strong networking, connecting and relationship building skills, including experience/track record in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with diverse stakeholders across CARE and externally.
    • Financial literacy / budget management.
    • Negotiation skills and ability to be propositional.
    • Highly responsive communicator, solution-focused.
  • Additional technical competencies, in addition to business development skills and experience outlined above:
    • Excellent professional written skills in English (French, Spanish and Arabic desired).
    • Well-rounded gender technical expertise.
    • Basic social media acumen.
