Current NGO vacancy in Ethiopia: Gender, Equity and Diversity Officer (Maternity Cover)
I. JOB SUMMARY : The purpose of the GED Officer Position is to ensure that appropriate structure that supports the commitments of CARE Ethiopia to strive to be a number one employees’ choice is achievable. This structure is designed to place CARE’s commitment to diverse and equitable environment in policies is effectively integrated in the reality of the working environment. This position is effectively expected to be the spearhead of the process by providing guidelines for implementation, monitoring changes, documents and generates evidence for learning. The GED Officer will sit in Human Resources Department and directly reports to HR Manager. The position holder is expected to closely work with and reports to the SLT.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS : Job Responsibility #1. Ensure Implementation of Young Females Internship program: Develop an action plan and guidelines with measurable indicators for the implementation of the female only internship program based on the program document developed; Work with Program Support Units, Program Coordinators and FOs to identify annually placements and detailed SOW for interns across the Country Office Facilitate the identification and training of pool of mentors; Lead the advertisement, selection, recruitment and proper evaluation and certification of interns and the internship program; Run a continuous orientation, evaluation and information sharing opportunities to closely work with interns, their supervisors and mentors; Keep proper documentation of progress of the individual interns and the program; Using different mechanisms promote the internship program to attract young talent. % of Time: 40% Job Responsibility #2. Ensure Implementation of other CO GED initiatives: Develop an action plan and guidelines with measurable indicators for the implementation of the COs policies/decisions designed to enhance gender and diversity; Design and lead partnerships and interventions to help improve the COs work force balance with all rounded perspective of diversity be it religious, ethnic, age, disability, etc. Serve as an overseer of a respectable working environment where diversity is appreciated and hostile working environment is effectively identified, challenged and positively resolved; Create an empowering, mutually-respectful and open communication with all offices and units with a purpose of creating a non-threatening enabling working environment that can nurture respect for diversity; Highly involve or lead high and middle level management position recruitments; Support program teams during recruitment process by providing guidance and analysis; Develop promotional and informative materials; % of Time: 30% Job Responsibility #3: Learning, Documentation and Reporting: Compile data and provide comparative analysis periodically; Provide SLT with up to date data and lessons for decision making; Keep up to date, increasing pool of trained mentors (both at HO and FOs) and organize learning and information sharing forum for interns and mentors; Keep record of gender based safety and security issue; and provide strategic direction/s on prevention and management; Design and collect quality data tracking mechanisms, analyze the data, extract lessons and share with CARE’s leadership and external use; Collect, compile learning and share transformative practices to enhance workforce diversity, staff retention strategies and results from other like-minded organizations. Conduct frequent FOs site visits and facilitate Field Level All female staff meetings to provide opportunities for female FO staff to feedback on their situations and environment % of Time: 20% Job Responsibility #4: Organize events : Work with programs and HR for an on-going staff induction and training; Develop and implement follow-up coaching plans to sustain staff expertise and commitment to apply new skills; % of Time: 5 % Job Responsibility #5: Gender Equity and Diversity (GED). Provide technical assistance in the area of gender equality to ensure that programmatic strategies are addressing unequal power relations. Develop Organizational as well as programmatic gender tools, guidelines and frame works to ensure that the women empowerment and gender equality work of CARE is well grounded and systematic. Ensure that evaluations and assessments pay particular attention to gender equality and women’s empowerment and any potential negative consequences of CARE’s interventions. Provide specific attention to gender equality and women’s empowerment impact measurement indicators, systems and processes. IV. QUALIFICATIONS A) EDUCATION/TRAINING Required: BA/BSc Degree in Sociology, Psychology, management, law or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Desired: Masters in the study of humanities; preferably gender studies, social work, sociology and management. B) EXPERIENCE Required: 3-5 years of work experience in human resource development or talent management. Desired: Actual work experience in designing or implementing internship/mentoring program or implementing initiative to enhance organizational workforce balance in NGO environment.
C) TECHNICAL SKILLS Required: A good command of facilitation skill; Computer skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Firm belief and commitment in teamwork; Desired: Training skill. V. CONTACTS/KEY RELATIONSHIPS. The GED Officer will have direct working relations with all employees with in HR at Had Office and Field Offices. In addition, the Officer will have close working relationship with the program units, PMT, WEGA and SLT. VII. WORKING CONDITIONS AND LEVEL OF TRAVEL REQUIRED This position is located in CARE Addis Ababa Office and requires 30% of travel to Field Offices.
