Result of Service
The incumbent will be responsible for the following: – To technically support the collation of geo-metadata and geo-validation of Maps with QA/QC toward the Geo-Stats Atlas of the Arab World. – To conduct data Integration, convert and transform data, create connections between various formats and apps, transform and alter the structure, content, and characteristics of data, re-configure data for different applications, formats and models, use spatial data sets and integrate data to produce knowledge about locations, validate and verify the quality of data, empower data towards informed.

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The project is to promote the integration of social, economic, and environmental data and to fill in data gaps for the monitoring of sustainable development goals in the Arab world. The focus is on enhancing geo-statistical data acquisition and dissemination and on showcasing user-centric and analytical capabilities for capacity-development activities. Duties and Responsibilities: To conduct data integration, transform data, create connections between various applications, reconcile the structure, content, and characteristics of data, reconfigure data for different applications and formats, layering spatial data sets to gain new insights, validate and verify the quality of data towards informed decisions. Responsibilities: • Contribute to ESCWA’s geo-statistical databases and applications. • Locate and identify regional, national, and subnational data. • Develop efficient data collection, analysis, and dissemination methods. • Design geostatistical databases. • Document the quality, accuracy, and consistency of data. • Implement geostatistical edits and imputation. • Make recommendations on technical issues. • Help in the development of indicators. • Produce dashboards, charts, maps, and infographics. • Contribute to capacity-building and training sessions. • Coordinate with partners and member states as a technical expert. • Facilitate information sharing between partners and capacity building. • Participate in data validation.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information System or related fields on engineering and sciences is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. No previous work experience is required for this job opening. Knowledge of ArcGIS is required. Knowledge of the production of geographic information system products is required. Knowledge of feature manipulation is required. Knowledge of Code writing R and Python with linkages to GIS is required. GIS work on relevant member states is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English and knowledge of Arabic is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
