The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages approximately $70+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 85% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This internship position is located in the Global Emerging Markets Team within the Public Equities Investment Section of the Office of Investment Management in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. The incumbent reports to the Team Lead. It is preferred that the incumbent would work in person at OIM’s office in New York, however remote work is also possible.
Responsibilities
With appropriate guidance, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:
• Conduct investment research using quantitative strategies. This includes quantitative research on topics such as factor analysis, market signals as well as risk and liquidity premia.

Education
To qualify for the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following conditions:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme, preferably in Economics or Finance, with a specialization in quantitative methods (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
OR,
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree
programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), preferably in Economics or Finance, with a specialization in quantitative methods.
Applicants who have graduated as defined in (a) or (b) above, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Experience in quantitative finance is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Special Notice
• The minimum duration of an internship assignment is two (2) months, and the maximum duration is six (6) months. Internships can be full time or part time.
• Interns at the United Nations Headquarters Secretariat are not paid.

• There should be no expectation of employment within the UN after an internship. Interns shall not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, positions at the professional level and above carrying international recruitment status in the Secretariat for a period of six months following the end of their internship.
• UN interns can work from a remote location or in person in New York. In order to work in New York, Interns must have a valid US visa which allows them to take up employment.
• Applicants who are children or siblings (including stepchildren, half-siblings, or stepsiblings) of a staff member as well as sons or daughters in law may not be engaged as intern.
• The UNJSPF is committed to achieving gender and geographical diversity.
• As part of the onboarding process, all interns are required to submit a physician statement, proof of medical insurance coverage for the duration of the internship period, proof of enrollment/graduation.
• At the end of the internship a certificate of completion will be provided.
United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
