Main purpose of position

The main purpose of this position is to leverage advanced graphic design expertise, particularly in Adobe InDesign, to create high-quality visual content that supports the organization’s communication and marketing efforts. The role aims to enhance the visual representation of the organization’s projects and initiatives, ensuring consistency with ICARDA and CGIAR branding guidelines. This position is crucial for developing impactful brochures, flyers, and other marketing materials, and for capturing high-quality images and videos to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and achievements.

The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is a treaty-based international non-profit research organization supported by CGIAR. ICARDA’s mission is to reduce poverty, enhance food, water, and nutritional security, as well as environmental health in the face of global challenges including climate change. We do this through innovative science, strategic partnerships, linking research to development and capacity development that take into account gender equality and the role of youth in transforming the dry areas. ICARDA works in partnership with governments, universities, civil society, national agricultural research organization, other CGIAR Research Centers, and the private sector. All CGIAR Centers are currently engaged into a reform process (“One CGIAR’”) that will help ICARDA and CGIAR achieve better impact through more strategically integrated research, unified governance, an integrated structure, and new research modalities across participating Research Centers. This transformation is supported by CGIAR donors who have committed to increased funding as a result of these reforms.

Main responsibilities

  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign for creating and editing various types of publications and designs.
  • Utilize graphic design skills to produce high-quality visual content for print and digital media.
  • Apply knowledge of both traditional and contemporary design methodologies to enhance project outcomes.
  • Innovate and execute creative design concepts for editorial projects, ensuring visually appealing and effective communication.
  • Assist in the creation of brochures, flyers, and other marketing materials using ICARDA and/or CGIAR templates and adhering to branding guidelines.
  • Capture high-quality images and, when necessary, perform videography tasks to support visual content needs.
  • Perform specific tasks related to the field of graphic design and visual communication, as assigned, to support organizational objectives.

Requirements

Education, qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a related field: A strong educational background in design principles and visual arts is essential.
  • Certification in Adobe InDesign or Graphic Design (preferred): Additional certifications from recognized institutions or professional bodies can be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3-5 Years of Professional Experience in Graphic Design: Proven track record in a graphic design role, preferably with experience in editorial design and marketing material development.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing a variety of design projects, including brochures, flyers, and editorial layouts.
  • Experience with Traditional and Digital Design Techniques: Demonstrated ability to apply both traditional and digital design methodologies.
  • Experience in Marketing Material Development: Previous experience in creating marketing collateral that adheres to specific branding guidelines.
  • Highly goal-driven and works well in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong Communication and Collaboration Skills: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate design concepts clearly.

Terms of appointment, salary and benefits

This is a nationally recruited consultant position open to Tunisian nationals for a duration of 6-months or until the end of 2024.

The incumbent will be provided with a monthly honorarium.
