Duties and Responsibilities
ORGANIZATION SETTING AND REPORTING Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNDRR has over 140 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. In particular, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with UN Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. The Individual Contractor is being recruited to support the organizing team of the Bonn Technical Forum 2024 by producing a graphic recording of the conference on 22 and 23 October 2024. This graphic recording will be used for advocacy and engagement purposes, during the BTF and beyond in associated publications. It will help engage a broader constituency on DDR work and NELs. The technical support will be provided at the location of the UNDRR Office in Bonn, Germany. The Individual Contractor will report to the Head of the UNDRR Office in Bonn under the overall guidance of the Chief, Risk Knowledge, Monitoring and Capacity-Development Branch. Final product must adhere to UNDRR’s corporate communications standards on diversity and inclusion. Guidance will be provided by the Communications Section. The Individual contractor will be based in Bonn, Germany.
Qualifications/special skills
A first-level university degree in visual communication, graphic design or a similar field of study is required. – 5 years of experience in workshop co-facilitation through graphic recording is required. – Experience in topics related to climate action including disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and loss and damage is desirable. – Experience working in United Nations or any other similar international organization is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
