Ground Segment System Engineer
This is a non-renewable post for a limited duration of 4 years and is classified A2-A4 on the Coordinated Organisations’ salary scale.

Ground Segment System Engineer in the Ground Software Systems and Functional Verification Section, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (D/TEC).
You will work within the Ground Software Systems and Functional Verification Section, a group of around 25 highly motivated experts in ground software engineering and assembly, integration and functional verification (AIV) for space systems. The Section contributes to the success of ESA missions such as Rosetta, Galileo, Juice, Earth observation Earth Explorers and Sentinel missions, meteorological missions and many others. In addition, it provides technical support for the functional verification and validation of the ground segment for all missions and satellites at ESA. It also supports space transportation, space engineering and technology, operations and space safety missions.
As a first assignment, you will provide functional support to ESA Earth observation projects.
You will report hierarchically to the Head of Section and functionally to the relevant EO ground segment and services managers.
If selected for the position, your duties will include:
• support to evolution activities in respect of EO ground segment system architecture and operational concepts, including technical definition of interfaces;
• support to EO ground segment system integration, testing and validation of new technologies, functionalities and services;
• technical expertise in specific areas of the EO Ground Segment in support of EO ground segment managers and EO services managers;
• technical management of selected contracts for system and services in the EO ground segment domain;
• support to the EO ground segment managers and EO services managers in other aspects related to the implementation and operations of EO ground segments.

A master’s in engineering is required for this post.
Experience in software development for EO science data processing and data management is considered an asset.
You should also:
• have the capability to work effectively in an international and multidisciplinary team;
• demonstrate flexibility in dealing with evolving technical and operational challenges.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

In accordance with the European Space Agency’s security procedures and as part of the selection process, successful candidates will be required to undergo basic screening before appointment conducted by an external background screening service.
In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
